Picnic is an activity where a group or a family, as the case maybe, visit a place, preferably an open park or beach, just for a moment of fun, eating and playing games. During family picnics, favourites meals and snacks are made, favourite games are also played to spice up the day.

Have your family or a family you know ever gone on a picnic? Or maybe you have been on an excursion with an organisation or group of friends? What was your experience? You would like it, didn't you?

Honestly, the pleasure of having the feeling of the fresh air, sitting or playing barefoot, and the good meals is just heart-warming. The joy of it is just out of this world.

The importance of family picnics can not be underrated, as family picnics strengthen the family unity, bring a feeling of oneness, peace, love and affection.

When there is nothing to bond the family, there's likely to be the feeling of sadness, disunity and dissatisfaction amongst family members. Hence, the importance of going for a family picnic to bring that closeness and bonding. It is necessary because most family members are usually busy every day. The parents go to work every morning and come back late, as the children also go to school and return at noon. With that, the family members do not have the time for them to talk extensively, discuss or have fun together as a family. That's why a family picnic is necessary to bond up.

The beauty of a family picnic is that it's always a moment of joy and happiness for family members. It is a time for family reunions and bonding. Having a good time such as eating and playing together which brings about the following to unite the family;

• Leaves a lasting memory in the minds of the members of the family, always calling for a sweet experience each time it is remembered.

• Renews the family love and affection between a husband and wife and then between the parents and the children. Strengthening love and affection is what strengthens the family bond.

• Gives families the opportunity to discuss issues affecting them in a very calm and relaxed mood, then come to agreement and forgive one another in a case of left-over anger and annoyance, after which the family bond will grow even better than it was.

Conclusion

For me, regular or periodic picnics can strengthen family bonds due to the joy and happiness it brings in the family.
