My Family Favorite Moment.

I am a Nigerian from the northern region of West Africa, the giant of Africa.

Family is made of parents, children and others who descended from ancestors. Every family, I guess has a favourite moment just like my own.

A favourite moment is a time of Joy.

My favourite moment in my family is when we gather once in five years. But before that gathering, we do come together to celebrate marriages i.e. when giving out or taking in others into the family.

But the most favourite moment is when the entire family gathers together every five years to become familiar with themselves and keep their identity alive.

The family comprises the present generation back to the third. These three generations will each come down to their ancestral home.

A heavy preparation is made where eating and drinking take place. The essence of that gathering was to make sure the identity of the family and its culture was not lost.

Every member of the family came home where the ancestral history and our identity were taught. Almost all the necessary things that made life better that day were available.

The elderly among us wore traditional attire, including animal skins traditional food was made and eaten as was used to be in the days.

The last one was how they survived an ethnic war and slavery by the colonial master.

They acted the way they resisted colonialism. And acted nakedly holding bows and arrows, also how a python helped to save them. When the python died after saving them, they peeled its skin and kept it for record purposes.

Ancient songs were sanga and the meaning was explained. Children displayed some talents.

There was a moment when everyone went to Bush and brought anything of his choice. All the meat being hunted was prepared and eaten.

We were exposed to some ancient things used by our great-grandparents.

We were told the relevance of pithon to the family in particular. It's their shield and friend and not an enemy in particular to the family.

Finally, we drank and ate all that was made available which everyone felt okay and that ended the all show.
