Introduction

Water, the essence of life! Water just like air (oxygen) is one of the most valuable thing to living things, both plants and animals. It's a basic necessity for survival on planet earth. As parents or guardians, we want our kids to grow up strong, smart and full of vitality. But sometimes, despite our best efforts to achieve that, they can get hooked up in a cycle of surgery drinks and probably unhealthy habits that will hinder a healthy lifestyle and growth. Although when we all are tasty we take drinks and sometimes for pleasure, but to be honest, not all drinks in much quantities are good for the body both as adults (parents) and our dear kids/wards.

What if there was a way to break free from the hold of these sugary drink traps and unhealthy habits and furthermore nourish their bodies with good, natural drinks instead? What is Water?

To start this discussion, let's first of all define water.

Water is a clear, colorless and odorless liquid substance that is the most abundant compound on Earth. It is a basic necessity for survival by every living thing. It is noted that 71% of the Earth surface is covered by water while the remaining % consists of land and maybe even deserts. Medically/scientifically water makes 60% of an adult human's body weight. Interesting isn't it?

Water has many unique properties (physical and chemical) that make it essential for various geological, biological and chemical processes which includes:

  • Regulating the body temperature
  • Removing waste products
  • Transporting nutrients and oxygen to cells
  • Acting as a solvent for various substances
  • Supporting metabolic processes.

What is Hydration and the importance of Hydration to kids' health and development

Hydration is referred to as the process of absorbing and making use of water by the body to maintain normal bodily functions. Good and healthy ydration is good for a healthy lifestyle. From studies, men are to take about 15.5 cups of water a day (3.7 litres) while women should take 11.5 cups (2.5 litres). For kids, from 4-8 years old: 6 cups, 9-13 years old: 5 to 6 cups and, 13-18 years: 6 to 8 cups.

The importance of hydration for kids' health and development are:

  • Boost energy level and mental performance
  • Helps prevent dehydration and related health issues
  • Supports physical growth
  • Transportation of oxygen and nutrients to cells
  • Regulates body temperature
  • Removes waste products

To replace the constant consumption of sugary drinks, here are natural drink options that can help to enhance healthy hydration and healthy living.

  • Water
  • Fresh fruit infused water
  • Herbal teas

In conclusion, healthy Hydration is a vital aspect of a child's start up and natural drinks play a crucial role in maintaining their physical and mental health. By knowing the importance of hydration, the effects of dehydration, and the potential danger of sugary drinks, parents/guardians will make great decisions to provide their kids with the best possible healthy life.
