In this age of increasing technological influence, the most negative consequences stem from the haphazard and unnecessary use of gadgets. Most parents let their children use phones, iPads, and laptops in the name of entertainment or sometimes being too busy with their own work. Later on, children get addicted to them and start throwing tantrums if their parents try to stop them from using gadgets.

Let me share with you all some of the positivity and negativity of technology in kids' lives

If you ask a doctor, he will tell you that there is a wide list of potential side effects, like swelling in a vein, headache, hearing loss, nausea or nervousness, high or low blood pressure, stomachaches, etc. And the problem does not end here. The doctor will also tell you that, apart from the symptoms like irritability, carelessness, not listening to the elderly, becoming silent, fighting with other children, or a sudden lack of harmony and communication in the families. Maybe the doctor’s own children are themselves victims of this bad habit of excess use of screens.

You might say, technology is fine, but with the help of search engines, employment opportunities have increased in many fields like education, medicine, science, online banking, e-commerce, m-commerce facilities, communication and entertainment, data sharing, and online booking with the use of the internet. I agree, but that is for productive purposes and for adults.

In such a situation, millions of people in the world, including young children and young people, have been using the internet for various online games and sites like movies, songs, and other forms of entertainment. Don’t you think these have disrupted children’s daily routines and distracted them from physical activities and studies?

The ill-effects of mental and physical health are increasing as children are suffering from the loss of memory due to baseless knowledge easily accessible through various types of gadgets. I feel children in the age group of 2 to 10 and even older are in the grip of this addiction.

But we are talking about small children.

So, what could be the solution?

Every child should have a fixed screen time. We should keep them away from home in a park or playground, especially the young kids. Teenagers and young people should avoid unnecessary use and restrain themselves by maintaining mutual communication in family, kinship, and friendship. We should avoid unnecessary use of gadgets in front of children could be a decent solution.

Gadgets have made the biggest impact on the world of children. Children have lost their sleep because of spending time on laptops, computers, and other gadgets for six to seven hours. Their health is getting affected badly and they are facing many problems.

How can you keep your kids away from this addiction?

And as you asked-

How would you rate the impact of technology in kids' life? Highly positive or negative?

I explain, gadgets have entered in the lives of today’s youth that no one can even think of ignoring them. Today’s youth can live without food and water for many days, but it is not acceptable for them to stay even a few minutes away from gadgets like mobile phones, i Pads, and laptops. Gadgets have captured teenagers and kids alike, and the numbers are increasing by every passing day.

Because of this, many side effects and symptoms like sleeplessness, stress, obesity, and nervousness appear in children. Because of technology, children use mobiles, computers, video games and other gadgets for six to seven hours.

Nowadays, parents leave teenagers and young children (from 3 years to 10–11 years old) to use mobile and video games till late at night. On mobile, they chat with friends till late at night. 90% of children complete their homework while watching TV or surfing the internet until late at night. According to doctors, it is very fatal for teenagers. But you have to see this because you also have some responsibility here.

Can we have control over the exposure of kids to certain technological products? How?"

Easy yet difficult

We have to set an example. We ourselves have to stay away from gadgets and keep gadgets out of the reach of children. Do not keep a computer or laptop in the children’s room. Tell them how much more use of gadgets is dangerous for their health and their studies.

So what should we, as parents, do?

You must go to their room once in a while at night to see if they are awake until late. What are they doing if they are awake? Children’s laptops and computers need to be checked frequently. Internet history will have to be checked so that we can find out which websites children visit. Send your children out to play and tell them that playing is also very beneficial for their health.

So I must say technology has impacted the world both in a negative and positive way but it depends on us how we take its advantage and stay away from it negativeness.

I do not agree with the impact of modern technology on children’s brain development or its impact on children’s overall development. I know advanced technological advancements and information technology are necessary for our development and different routine jobs. But we should admit it can be very dangerous for young kids.
