How can you handle a child that bedwets?

When should I be concerned about my childs bedwetting.jpg

As a kid or an individual grows older, they may be given opportunity to attend sleepovers, and if they wet the bed, their self-esteem may suffer. These are some of the methods for preventing bedwetting in children and adults.

Encourage them to use the restroom before going to bed

Before going to bed, make sure you or your child uses the restroom. Sleeping with a full bladder increases the likelihood of wetting the bed throughout the night.

Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime

If you or your child has to drink fluids, do it earlier in the evening rather than right before bed. This will allow them to utilise the restroom before going to bed.

Be Encourage

The majority of people or children who wet their beds feel alone in their situation. Try not to shout at your child if they pee the bed, as frustrating as it may be. Encourage them if they go a night without wetting the bed.

Do not scold them

Parents frequently blame their children for wetting the bed, claiming that they are too lazy to use the restroom. This could not be further from the truth. Do not use any kind of punishment or humiliate the child. Try not to hold them responsible for something they did while they were sleeping. Yelling at them may cause tension, guilt, shame, and worry, which will only make the situation worse.

Irritants to the bladder should be avoided

Bladder irritants include coffee, chocolate, meals containing artificial colouring, and certain citrus juices. Reduce or eliminate them entirely from your child's diet.

Alarm clock

This alarm can either wake them up to go to the restroom or to change their sheets if they have already wet the bed. It is not recommended to put your child on medication to reduce bedwetting unless the bedwetting is caused by an underlying medical problem. The drug will only provide a short-term solution.
