SEC17 WK:#3: large and small families, likes and dislikes.

Hello everyone, I'm happy to be here. I hope everything is going on well with us, let's keep hope alive because when there is life, despite the tough economy, there is hope. Today, I will be talking on family. The contest topic is an interesting one, I will be sharing my views on the determinant of a large or small family. A family is a group or set of people who become one through marriage, or blood. Through marriage, a man becomes family with a woman, through birth, that is blood, children become families to their parents. Families can also be through adoption, where a couple adopt a child. Everyone on earth came through family and the family name, characters, traits, differentiate ond family from another. From nuclear family, it extends to extended family. But today, our focus is on nuclear family. The nuclear family can be small with only 1 to 3 children, it can be large with 4 to 8 children or more, it depends on what the couple wants and situation of things.

• Some people prefer to have large number of children because that is what commands respect in their community. A person who has just 1 or 2 children may not be respected as one who has five children.

• Not having the gender one needs might make the couple continue procreation with the hope of having a particular gender soon. In Africa, male children are highly sought for so in a situation a woman gives birth to about 5 girls, they will continue procreation for a male child.

• Finance us another determinant. Some couple prefer having the number of children they can comfortably carer for, do they prefer 2 or 3 children at most.

• Pregnancy trauma or health challenges is another reason couples prefer to have few children.

• The background the couple come from can also determine if they want to have few or large number of children. Example, a man who was an only child would want to have many children or a woman who had many siblings and whose parents were not able to cater for them might want to have few children and make those few comfortable.

• Infertility is another reason couples end up having few children. Sometimes, IVF fails and the couple decide to give up.

I come from a family with few number of children. We are just two and this has helped in a way especially in this hard economy. I have also seen families with large number of children so I can say I prefer few number of children. • My first reason is economy and finance. Times are extremely hard and taking care of children requires money. I would prefer having the number of children I can comfortably cater for. I dint believe in bringing a child to the world to starve, or not having money to pay for school fees or providing the basic necessities of life.

• More children means more headache. I prefer having the number of children I can control or direct their way of life positively. When there are too many children, one won't be able to check them and direct them in the right way because the couple will be too busy. While they are correcting 2, 3 will be going another way.

• When there are few number of children in a family, there is more peace and stability with equal love in the environment. But where we have 7 or more children, there will be conflict and unnecessary competition, the children might even be struggling to be the favourite of the parents.

• More children means working triple the time one should work, which may lead to more stress Abd quick death. A person who has 5 children will have to work more than he should to cater for them unless he doesn't want to provide for them. This will bring about failure in health and eventually death.

I like and admire families with few children where they children are adequately provided for, they look neat and are comfortable, they live in good houses Abd enjoy the comfort of life, who doesn't like good things, but with small income and large number of children, these can't be achieved.

I like the closeness and communication in small families, the stability and support with love in a small family is something to be envied.

Couples with few children seem to go to great lengths to see to it that their children are highly educated and well placed in life. Imagine finishing higher school, and you are sponsored to the next level.

When a family is large, they seem not to support each other, rather they will want to outdo one another, they get jealous of each other and sooner or later, start fighting for properties.

When parents of children in large families can't provide for them, they start sending them out at a young age ti hawk on the street, I wouldn't want my child to go through this. Every child deserves to be in school and not get involved in any child labour until the age of 18 if need be.

When there are too many children in a nuclear family, they tend to be adult even in their young age because they will start taking responsibilities at a young age, therefore their childhood is being stolen from them.

Before a couple decides to have a large number of children for whatever reason, they need to plan. I believe it's there choice but children shouldn't be brought into the world to suffer, they shouldn't be neglected. Some people have a large number of children due to the fear of being neglected in their old age, but a well trained and loved child won't neglect his or her parents at old age.
