STEEMIT MATH CLASS | LESSON 2 - LINEAR EQUATIONS.
Hello Everyone.
Canva Design.
No doubt the Steemkids community is the best place to be on the steemit platform, you don't just learn about Cryptocurrency but you also learn maths which is a major problem to students.
I fear mathematics but classes from the Steemkids community goes a long way in helping me understand a lot, I really appreciate our tutor @whileponderin for taking out time to ensure knowledge is impacted, we are grateful sir.
A linear equation can simply be defined as an equation with one or two variables in which the highest power of the variables is one. Whenever a linear equation is plotted on a graph, it gives a straightline just as the name implies, that is to say linear equation graphs are straightline graphs.
Variables in linear equation can only be raised to the power of 1, any equation with powers above 1 is no longer a linear equation.
Give two examples each of a one variable and two variable linear equation.
For a one variable: 2x + 6 = 8
2x + 3x = 24For two variables: 2x + 4r = 8
3y - 9x = 20
To solve for x in the above equation, we will have to collect like terms, sperating constants from variables. If we collect like terms, we will get:
- 2x = 11 - 7
2x = 4
Therefore x =4/2
X = 2
To solve for x in the above equation, we will also collect like terms and after collecting like terms we will get:
- 5x = 24 + 16
5x = 40
Therefore x = 40/5
X = 8
Recall: same letter or variable with different coefficient are considered as one as they can be added. For example 5x + 2x = 13, same variable but with different coefficient therefore it is said to be a one variable Linear Equation.
One Variable Linear Equations | Two Variable Linear Equations. |
---|---|
5x + 2x = 13 | 16c + 12b = 20 |
19 + 2c = 12. | 18x + 9y = 0 |
Answer: No it is not a linear equation.
√x + 3 = 12 is not a linear equation because the variable carries a power more than 1.
In conclusion, variables in linear equations can only have a power of 1 and are said to be straightline graphs when plotted on a graph.
Hello @david-o, you did very well in your presentation. Students shy away from Math but you courageously stand up to the homework tasks. Thank you for participating.

Thanks for the review sir.
I thought √x is interpreted as x² in indices, thanks for the correction sir.
