SEC17 WK:#4: The effects of economic hardships on families

in Steem Kids & Parents5 months ago

Each time I remember think about the hardships of my dear country Nigeria, I shade tears because Nigerians are really suffering especially the poor because the economic situation is affecting everyone both the rich and the poor, every day the price of goods and services are increasing and the government are not helping matters at all.

Families are feeling the heat of the current economic hardships in my country, and some have went on to reduce the way they consume food just so that they can be able to survive, honestly speaking is not been easy for us at all.

The effects of economic hardships on my family

Every family is currently affected by the economic situation of my country and my family is also facing the same issues because ever since the new president was sworn in to government things haven't been easy at all, the removal of feul subsidy is the genesis of all the problems that we are facing in this country.

We all need fuel in our daily lives because due to this price of goods and services have drastically increased due to the high price of fuel, before we buy fuel for #240 NGN but its been sold for #700 NGN you can see the massive increase in price.
Because of this, we now pay double the transportation fare that we normally pay before because of this issue of fuel.

I believe some of us have experienced fuel scarcity before, and it was a very terrible experience because everyone will be selling to their own satisfaction

My family is also affected by this hardship because of you go to the market tobuy good items before you will know the money is gone and you will not even know what you bought, you will end up spending more than your budget because the price is not in a stable condition at all.
Today you will go to the market and buy a particular item, going back tomorrow the price has increased it has not been easy at all.

The worst of it is that the salary that my ada is receiving is still the same and yet things are increasing everyday, only God can save us from this suffering because Nigerians are really suffering especially the poor ones honestly speaking I really feel for them because sometimes they eat once in a day because of the situation of the country.

By the grace of God we are living happily in my family because we are still alive even through this hardship that we are facing, it has not been easy for us but we still give God the glory.

What have you done to help, or how are you all coping with it?

Farming is the number one thing that has really helped us in coping through this hardship, especially farming cassava, which is very important because it will generate garri for you.
We currently have different cassava farms, and I have contributed massively in making sure that the farm is in good condition.

I have helped spray the farm with chemicals so that grass will not disturb the cassava from growing well. I have also assisted in weeding the farm and also planting cassava to make sure that it grows well and beer good seeds.

I am also the person in our house that take care of the goats we all know how important livestock is to the family, this goat of ours have really generated income for us because we sometimes sell them to people and we get money at the end yo support the growth of our family especially during this hardship.

Coping during this hardship is not easy at all but by the grace of God we are living comfortably in my family, because my dad is a soldier and my mum is a business woman so they both contribute to the well-being of our families, I also have an elder who have been been very helpful to us though he is not around at the moment buy he always send money to also support the growth of our family.
I must confess that it has not been easy, but we give God all the glory.

Is so sad that our currency no longer have value at all, imagine a dollar equivalent to #1,000 NGN

I remember recently I was send by my mum to buy a wash hand of garri, reaching there it was sold for #5,000 naira and i just laughed and came back home, the next day we went and cultivated of cassava and we did garri of more than 10 wash hand, see how we could have wasted money.
We the citizens are not helping matters at all because any small opportunity that we have we will want to make use of it, when you complain they will say that dollar have increased.

What adjustments have you and your family made to be able to cope?

20240408_181843.jpg

We have reduced the way we consume food in our house because things are very expensive, before now we sometimes waste food unnecessarily because it is much in our house but after experiencing this hardship we have stop it and we cook food that will not waste.

We have gone into farming by opening different farms and we have cultivated them with different crops, this have really helped us in saving some money that we would have used to buy some of the food items.

I am using this opportunity to invite @josepha, @pandora2010, @simonnwigwe, @marito74 and @rdp89 to join me and participate in this wonderful contest

This your post reminds of the song that says "10k no dey last again, 100k no dey last again". I went to the market to buy foodstuffs to cook for one sitting and I spent 9k, I could not believe my eyes.

At first they said it was dollar, now dollar came down but our sellers have refused to reduce price. To me, we Nigerians are our problem not the government.

My brother you're correct, we are our problem not the government
Thanks for stopping

Upvoted. Thank You for sending some of your rewards to @null. It will make Steem stronger.

Hi guy 🤗 when I read content from friends in Nigeria I find similarities with the hardships we go through in Venezuela and I identify with that desire to move forward despite adverse circumstances.

Governments implement policies that do not benefit the people only sink them deeper into misery, how sad,we live it too.

But it is in these circumstances where we learn, unite and strengthen as a family. Your parents do what they can, the old man helps and you children contribute as well, a united family is strengthened 😄👍❤️

Thanks mam 🙏 for this wonderful comment ❤️

Greetings friend bonaventure24, thank you for your invitation, may you be successful in your participation.

The economy is difficult in your country, I have read your post and I realize that it has not been easy to deal with the economic situation that Nigeria is going through, when the currency is devalued those are the consequences.

They are making a great sacrifice in saving food, dedicating themselves to agriculture and caring for goats, in order to take a little and pay for something else.

Successes friend.

Economic hardship in our dear country is a pathetic one. I can see that you don't want to face the hardship, that's why you have resolved to join farming. That's all we are doing here in my state to escape food insecurity.

Nice content, best wishes to you.

Thanks my daer friend for this wonderful comment i really appreciate 😊 🙏

You're welcome

Greetings,
Since the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria hasn't been the same. It became worse when dollars gain dominance over naira which eventually sprang up the price of goods in the market.

Even Garri which is the last hope for the common man is now a rich man's food. It's just dawned on us that we have to go back to the natural way is Agriculture. Am glad that you have farmlands which will help alleviate any form of hardship in your family. Good luck on your post.

Thanks my brother

I understand and it is really bad condition because if price is not stable and increase at any time so how people will make monthly budget and when people do not follow budget, they will have to face hardship and it's bad impacts
