Contest || Silence Allows Violence

INTRODUCTION

There is a saying that goes, "Silence is golden." While this saying may be familiar to many, the true meaning of silence can be difficult to put into words. In its simplest form, would say silence is the absence of sound. Silence can be a moment of peace for some, for others is a time for reflection,for many it's a break from the chaos of the world and people around us. And generallu, It is also a time to listen, to truly hear what is going on inside and around us. No matter how it is experienced, silence is often a welcome respite from the noise of everyday life.

What do you think the word "silence" mean ?

The word "silence" to means the absence of sound. It also mean the lack of communication or a refusal to speak. It mean a state of inner calm and stillness. In some cases, it silence is a sign of respect or reverence. While I was growing up as a child, you don't speak when an elder is talking, you remain silent and listen. There are cases when you are provoked and you just observe silence to allow peace reign.

As much as silence has different and lots of meanings, there are so many places silence can be observed too. Places like the church, at funeral, in the library, mosques and in classes. At all times silence helps us to stay focused and attentive. It helps us to pay attention to the things happening around us.

Does silence denotes weakness ?

Not at all, Silence can be a sign of strength in many situations. For example, when we remain silent in the face of insults or provocation it's a sign that shows self-control and maturity. A person who can keep silence in the midst of any form of provocation is mature and would be able to handle anything. Silence denotes strength, maturity, respect and self control.

Silence is also a sign of strength. To remain silent when faced with difficult or painful circumstances is not something everyone could bear. Silence is also knowm to be a way of showing respect for others, or way of even protecting one's dignity. It is important to know that silence is not always and will never be a sign of weakness. I remember a day, those days in school, I have this girl in my compound that always come home late at night, and whenever she comes back I will open the gate for her when she calls out.

One day she came back from wherever she went to at 2am in the morning and was knocking and calling, I refused to open the gate for her and then, I think the other neighbors heard her and came to open the gate, when she got into the compound she begins to insult me, said so many things to me, I was boiling inside but I kept my calm. I didn't utter a word or respond to her and just the next morning, I called the landlord and explained to her and she was asked to pack because everyone complained about her. Sometimes our silence can save us so much stress.

Do you agree with the fact "silence allows violence " and why ?

I don't totally agree, in my opinion I think it's a 10/100 that silence allows violence although, silence can sometimes allow violence to continue. But personally I would say Silence is the only way to prevent further violence from occurring. It's also better when you speak after the heat had reduced,, speaking amidst some situations is very dangerous and may lead to more violence. For example, if speaking out against a violent person or group could lead to retaliation, remaining silent may be the safest option....

Should one be outspoken all the time or sometimes?

I would say It depends on the situation and the individual. In some situations, it is very important to speak up and make your voice heard because that is the right thing to do if you want to face justice. For example, if you witness injustice or mistreatment from anyone to you or to someone else, it is often important to speak up and take action. Also, there are also times when it is more appropriate to remain silent. Sometimes our words can put us into trouble, it is important to think before we speak. It is also important to weigh the consequences that comes with what we say before saying it.
