Driving on a strong cemented road and seeing those tall buildings, roads as firm as steel and perfect drainage system, it is difficult not to think of civil engineering. Civil engineering is the application of engineering principles and techniques to construct, maintain, or manage public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, airports, and water systems.

Civil engineers work on projects such as urban planning, transportation, infrastructure maintenance, construction management and design. In some cases they may specialize in a specific field of engineering , such as transportation or construction. The civil engineering discipline has a long and varied history, with contributions from many ancient civilizations. Civil engineering has played an important role in the development of civilization.

How would you describe Civil Engineering to your peers?

If i have to describe civil engineering to my peers i would tell them they are the makers of infrastructure in our society. These people have their hands on everything from designing new roads to keeping our water clean. They make sure that everything we use in our everyday lives is safe and functional.

What different branches of Civil Engineering did we talk about in this lesson? And, what each of them are used for?

We have talked about Construction engineering and structural engineering in the lesson.
Construction engineering is used for designing, planning, and managing the construction of buildings, structures, roads, and other infrastructure.
Structural engineering is used to design and analyze the behavior of structural members such as columns, beams, and bridges.
While the construction engineering is used for the construction of physical infrastructure, structural engineering is used to understand how these structures will behave in the presence of loads.

How would you plan YOUR island city, from start to finish.

If i have an island where i am the civil engineer here everything will be as per my needs and wants . I would start by surveying my island to see what natural resources are available. From here i would need to create a plan that takes into account the climate, topography, and existing infrastructure. I would also need to account for the needs of my citizens, such as water and power supply. Once i have a finalized plan, I would need to get permits from the government and start construction.

While constructing i will keep in mind the nature and the environment, i will not cut any trees, I will never construct on the coast, and i will make sure there is enough fresh water available. Overall this process would take many years to complete but it would be totally worth it in the end! I will be focusing more on the cleanliness ,plantations, natural environment and yet elegance. These are all important factors when it comes to creating a beautiful island city.
