Update #75: Writing Expedition ✍️|| Stories: The Tortoise with a pretty daughter
Hi Steemians! This is another day to gather together under the tree for a moonlight story. The stories told by our great grandfathers, great grandmothers, grandfathers and grandmothers to tell their children and their children's children.
Today, I'm here to tell you that story that my great grandfather told my father to tell me. But before I start, I hope everyone has finished his/her home chores? If not, go and finish it before joining us in today's moonlight 🌙 story. Ok, let's start!
Once upon a time, there lived a certain king who was very rich and powerful. He ruled both the higher and lower animals. The king had a son whom he had given fifty young ladies as wives but unfortunately, the Prince didn't love them. Because of this, the king became angry with his son and then passed an order that anyone who had a daughter more beautiful than any of his son's wives, would be killed together with the daughter. T
It now happened to be that the tortoise and the wife had a very pretty daughter. The mother told her husband that let them kill their daughter and throw her away so that the price wouldn't fall in love her as a result of her pretty and so they would not be killed
by the king. The tortoise rejected the idea and decided to hide his daughter up until she became three years old.
One day, the tortoise and his wife went to their farm and the prince came around their house with his servants for hunting. The Prince saw a bird on the fence and he shot at the bird. The bird fell into the fence and Prince sent one of his servants to go get it. As the servant was searching for the bird, he saw the little pretty child and went to inform the prince about it. The price broke the fence and saw the child. He fell in love with her and continued talking to her. After a long time of taking to her, the little girl agreed to marry him. The prince we home happily and decided to hide his intentions to his father, the king.
The day in the morning being eke market day, the prince sent sixty clothes and three hundred iron rods to tortoise. Later in the afternoon, the prince now went to tortoise house and told him he wants to marry his daughter. Tortoise became fearful of the prince intentions as it would be dangerous for him to agree owing to the King's order. The tortoise told the prince about it and the prince insisted as he also would be killed. After much arguments, tortoise agreed to give his daughter to the prince when she comes of age to marry. The prince went home happily and told his mother the queen. The queen became terrified as she feared her son would be killed by the king. Though the mother was angry with her son's decision, she went to tortoise and gave him some items such as yam, clothes, palm oil, and money as more dowry on behalf of her son. She did so that tortoise would not give his daughter to any other person.
The prince was constantly in touch with tortoise daughter for about five years and now decided to inform his father that he was about to bring tortoise daughter as a wife to the family. The king became angry about it and gathered all the people in the kingdom to come and hear about his son's decision. When they all gathered, the market square was filled up with people as the king and queen arrived. They all stood up and greeted the king and his queen. After he accepted their greetings, the asked his servants to get the girl his son wants to marry. When the girl was brought, he became so attracted to the girl's beauty. He told the people that he gathered them to let them know that he was angry with his son for disobeying and his decision to marry tortoise daughter without informing him. But now he had seen how beautiful the girl is, his son made a good choice. That he has now forgiven his son.
The people now requested the king to cancel the law he made that anyone who had a beautiful daughter than the wives of the prince be killed. The king cancelled the law and sent the message throughout the kingdom. He now asked tortoise daughter to marry his son, the prince. The girl accepted and got married to the prince. They celebrated it for fifty days where the king was happy and feeding all the people in the kingdom.
When the occasion was over the king divided his kingdom and gave half of it to tortoise to rule. He also gave tortoise three hundred women to work on his farm.
The prince gave tortoise his father-in-law two hundred women and hundred girls to work on his farm as well. This made tortoise to be one of the richest people in the kingdom.
Finally, The prince and his wife lived together for many years till when the king died and he ascended the throne in place of his father.
