I love to take photos: My Black and white photography

This is getting more interesting as the day goes by.

Photography is an artistic representation of reality
It is one of the most fundamental occurrences in human history. Before the advent of photography in the late 19th century, artistic representation was only made possible through painting and sculpture. These forms of art failed to capture exactness.

Aristotle had something to say about this
The great philosopher, Aristotle, had opined that art i.e. artistic representation was a poor imitation of the original because the artist finally was able to represent on canvas what was in his mind's eye and not the subject of the painting.

The revolution...
The invention of photography, therefore, was quite revolutionary because it represented exactitude or similitude. By this, it means that an exact carbon copy of the original can be obtained only through photography.

Take a moment to ponder on this, “What form of photography reminds you of pulchritude and gives you that nostalgic feeling? Give yourself a candid response but mine is black and white photography.

Black and white photography is a form of monochrome imagery. Like every other monochrome imagery in visual art, it tends to give vivid details of a subject. This is because it gives attention to the exposure, background, lights and shadows. Research shows that monochrome imagery dominated photography until the mid-20th century. Despite getting less popular, this powerful imagery remains timeless and compelling at the same time.

Do you know that...?
The first ever captured black and white photography was taken by Nicéphore Niépce in 1816 and 1826 where he created a permanent image of a window at Le Gras.

The next breathtaking black and white photography you have seen today are the ones I captured at The Greenfield, Brooks street, Uyo. First is a monochrome of five title deeds I earned in a game of monopoly. Next is a random photo of myself still at the same location. This feat should be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.

When you stare at a monochrome image, do you ever wonder what colour of cloth the person was wearing, how the camera knew which one should be black, and how it looks so beautiful in just black and white? I do wonder the same ALL THE TIME.
