Good day my fellow contestant, the admins and moderators of this prestige community, it is my pleasure to take part in this contest. When I saw this contest I was so happy and eager to take part in it, since has something to do with health. People so do say "health is life" and I love that saying so much.

For my health writing I am writing about health benefits of swimming.

First of all what is swimming?

Swimming is a sporting activity which takes place in water. Swimming can be done in a stream, river or swimming pool. During swimming we uses our arms and legs to move through the water.
A person who is learning to swim should enter the water at the shallow end, where the water is not deep.
At the shallow end, he or she should learn and practice some basic skills in swimming.

The basic skills in swimming are:-

  1. Coming into the water
  2. Coming out of the water
  3. Adjusting to the water
  4. Breathing in the water
  5. Turtle float and face float

Coming into the water

Slowly crawl into the water so as to remove fear. It also makes the beginner identify the water level.

Coming out of water

You also have to come out of the water little by little, until you are completely out of it.

Adjusting to the water

Raise your head and neck above the water, while the rest of the body lies below the surface of the water. Practice it for some time to make the body adjust to the temperature of water.

Breathing in water

A beginner should learn to hold breath underwater for sometime. Breathe in, then keep your head under water. Come over and give their head under water again. Do this for a few times until you can stay under water for a longer time.

Turtle float or surface diving

A beginner should support himself or herself with the hands on floor of the water or swimming pool. With his or her hand on the floor he or she should learn to float. This should be practiced at the shallow end of the water a few times.

Face float

At the shallow end of the pool, the swimmer will learn to stay afloat. Her head will be above water facing the sky. The rest of the body float inside water.

Safety rules in swimming

1.Do not enter the water if you have any infection or would.

  1. Use soap and water to bathe before you enter the water.
    3 Do not eat or drink while in or around the water.
  2. Do not urinate, spit, defecate or drop dirty things in or around the water.
  3. Learn and follow instruction for your safety.

Health Benefits of swimming

  1. Swimming is a good exercise for both the young and old as well as pregnant women.
  2. Swimming helps us to maintain a healthy heart and lungs.
  3. Swimming helps us to be more flexible.
  4. Swimming improves sleep, that is why after swimming you'll discover that you easily fall into sleep.
  5. Swimming keeps your heart rate up and relief stress.
  6. While swimming we can exercise every part of the body
  7. Swimming help us to develop the ability to endure.
  8. Swimming help in weight loss
  9. Swimming can be done as a career.
  10. when we swim we are strengthening our muscles and promoting cardiovascular health

Conclusion

Swimming is a sporting activity which take place inside water. One can swim in a stream, river or swimming pool. A swimmer uses hands and legs to move through water.
A beginner should learn the basic skills of swimming at the shallow end of the water.
If you want to stay in shape make swimming a habit.
Try and swim at least three times a week for 30 to 40 minutes or more per session.
I was told by my obstetrician to always swim when I was pregnant. So you see, if a pregnant woman can swim it means swimming is for everyone.
You too can swim.
