Pascal’s Wager may sound like a Gallic gambling game (the name means something like “Pascal's Wager”), but in fact it is the name of an argument made by the French philosopher Blaise Pascal. The heart of the argument suggests that we must hedge our bets by believing in God and following his rules. Sure, we may have to spend Sunday mornings sitting on uncomfortable benches in drafty churches. We may have to sacrifice some of life's little luxuries and refrain from certain unhealthy practices. However, in return, there is the prospect of a pair of wings, a harp, and eternal happiness. Although on the other hand, you could also simply ignore all these precautions, live the life of a scoundrel and risk not having to spend the other life stoking the fires of hell.
You may well ask what does all this have to do with this mobile game? Let's move on to Pascal's Wager and the main character, Terrence, who has been banished from the church for transgressions and is wrestling with theological doubt about him. Who is Terrence? Imagine ripping Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher out of another round of Gwent and throwing him into an even more grim and hostile world, heavily influenced by the Souls saga. In fact, Pascal’s Wager's sales pitch must have been to replicate the aesthetics and gameplay of Dark Souls on mobile devices.
Apple was impressed with the game's graphical performance, and was quick to jump on the train and show it off at the unveiling event for its latest devices:
Pascal’s Wager begins with a carriage ride. Obviously, no the game is not presented with the luxurious details and the additional graphic polish that allows a triple A console launch in the current generation, but it is still and without a doubt very impressive and especially if you play it on a brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max . For the technical achievement, the developer, TipsWorks, deserves no less than admiration. And I cannot fail to mention the sound section, which also exudes quality, both in sound effects and in the music that accompanies us on the adventure.
In Pascal’s Wager Terrence must fight his way through monster-ridden landscapes. It is a dark domain, both metaphorically and literally. Long ago the sun crashed into the sea, causing a dark mist to cover the world. Only the mysterious colossi, emitting sparks of light, can keep the fog at bay. But now even these glorified standard lamps are starting to fail, and it's your (Terrence's) job to figure out why.
The first few combat encounters serve to give you a false sense of security. Terrence uses a combination of quick slashes and powerful slashes to dispatch clueless enemies without even breaking a sweat. However, any game inspired by the gothic action RPG Dark Souls, which is admired and loathed in equal measure for its relentless difficulty, needs to be difficult. Therefore, any hope for a walk in the park is dashed as soon as you meet the first boss. This is also the point where you will find that touch controls become somewhat frustrating if you don't have practice.

IN SUMMARY
As a mobile game, Pascal's Wager is still impressive. Unfortunately, Definitive Edition misses the opportunity to revise and reinvest a game with a lot of potential. While its volume of content, novel mechanics and low price are good incentives to check it out, those looking for a challenge will not find it in this primitive 'Soulslike'. If you are looking for a "walk in the park", well may.
That's interesting background story on this game and its available on mobile too, but iphone only, looks like a good game to play on a bored and creepy Sunday night.
