Couple points:

1.) I love that you referred to our 'global culture', because I think that identity of oneness, one people, culture, etc., is key to ending the 'fighting for scraps.'

2.) If we get to pick our meaning, our purpose, as a people, then nurture and care for our home planet seems like a fundamental candidate for that purpose.
