Echo Sounder on ship | Principle of operation
About Echo Sounder
An echo-sounder is a special type of device that can be used to create echoes, and these echoes can be used to determine the depth of a body of water, the shape of the bottom of a body of water, or the size of a fish shoal. Mainly echo sounder means to determine the depth of water using sound. And the method of determining the position of the fish using an echo-sounder machine is called echo-sounding. This method can be used to determine the position of fish up to a depth of hundred and fifty meters in a reservoir.
Echo-sounder technology works quite accurate in this range. With this instrument, the position of all levels of fish can be accurately determined vertically. Basically, this process uses sound waves to measure the depth of the ocean or to know the distance of an object from a ship. The reason sound waves are used in water is that they work more accurately in water than radio waves.
A powerful echo-sounding device has the ability to indicate the movement of fish, feeding techniques or rising from the depths of a body of water. Echo-sounders or sonars are also used in marine vessels for various research purposes. The purpose of using this device is to detect the bottom of the ocean or to observe bubbles created by cracks in the bottom of the ocean.
How Echo Sounder works
At first, the sound is generated by an echo-sounder to locate the fish and sent to the bottom of the ocean or pond. The echo-sounder is set on the bottom of the ocean floor to determine the depth of the ocean. When sound is created with an echo-sounder, the vibration of the sound reaches the bottom of the ocean and gets interrupted there and returns to the sea surface. The echo sound is recorded by the echo-sounder between the vibrations of the sound going to the bottom of the ocean and returning to the surface after being interrupted. A formula is used to determine the depth of a reservoir or ocean.
The formula is : distance = time / 2x Speed of sound in water. By using this theory, an echo-sounder uses in a ship to determine the depth of the ocean.
