A wireless network is a computer network that uses wireless data connections between network nodes such as phones, satellite communications.
Wireless networking is a method by which homes and companies use wireless networks and avoid costs of introducing cables in their places.

Examples of wireless links
• Satellite communications

These are usually stationed in a space of 35,400 kilometers above the equator.

• Terrestrial microwave
These use earth based transmitters with resembling satellite dishes. They limit communications to a line of sight usually spaced approximately 48 kilometers apart.

Types of wireless networks
• Wireless Personal Area Networks
It is also known as the WPAN and it connects devices within a smaller area generally in a person’s reach for example Bluetooth connections.

• Wireless Local Area Networks
It’s wisely known as a wireless LAN. These are two or more devices that use wireless distribution methods within short distances by providing connection through an access point for internet access. For example WiFi networks.

• Wireless Wide Area Networks
These are networks that cover a large area such as in towns and cities. They are used in connecting public internet access points.

Advantages of wireless networks
• Increased mobility: Users are able to access wireless network systems from different areas and can easily get connected which increases productivity. For example companies that use WiFi connections, they can be accessed broadly in and outside the company.

• Increased speed: Installation of wireless networks eliminates use of cables since they can easily get filled up with different charger connections. Wireless networks increase speed in a way of easy setup and can be accessed by various people.

• Increased flexibility: Wireless networks are easily changed Incase one wants to make changes in the network and update to new configuration with time.

• Easy expansion: The network can extended to any places that do not have wires and cables because it is wireless.

Disadvantages of wireless networks
• Security: Wireless networks are more exposed to unauthorized users who can hack into sensitive data. It is not good to connect to any wireless networks anywhere .

• Difficulty in installation: There is usually poor communications or loss of communications in some places that have installed many wireless networks and use them regularly especially for businesses.

• Slow connection: Wireless networks are less effective in terms of speed because they connect thousands of people at the same time.

• Coverage issues: Places with weak signals may find it hard to setup wireless networks.
