Shock is usually present after incidents such as injury, sudden illness, or accident following pain.
It is a depression of the vital parts in the medulla oblongata due to insufficient blood in flow.
An important effect to point out in shock is a lowered blood pressure.
Shocks are of two (2) types.
Types of Shock
☣ Primary shock
☣ Secondary shock
Primary shock mostly happens exactly at the time of the incident.
WHILE
Secondary shock does not develop immediately till after several hours or days. There are two categories under this class:
☣ Oligaemic shock; when the body tissues has been damaged with presence of blood loss, this type of shock is likely to occur.
It occurs in cases like: Haemorrhage, fracture, burns & scalds, after surgical procedures, and in cases of severe vommitting & diarrhoea.
☣ Neurogenic shock; neurogenic shock is triggered by emotional reactions, like in fear, witnessing an accident, being overtaken by a sad news.

Treatment of Shock
Since during the state of shock there is loss of body fluids. It is important to replace loss fluids to the body by blood transfusion in a medical center.
Anyways before getting to the hospital, these precautions could be taken:
☣ Lay the patient down where the incident occurred with the head turned to the side.
☣ To help the flow of blood back to the brain, raise the lower part of the body.
☣ Ensure the environment is not over heated or crowded to avoid further loss of body fluids.
☣ Do not offer stimulants to patient.
☣ Loosen up tight clothings.
☣ Reassure patient continuously.
