Hello Everyone

I'm @saany. I hope everyone is well and safe. Today I'm going to describe about our country's traditional archaeological installations. It's known as Kantji Mondir.

The temple of Kantji in Dinajpur district of North Bengal is known by its first name. It is one of the oldest temples in Bangladesh. The ancient temple is about 300 years old. It is also known as Kantjiu Temple. Every year thousands of tourists from home and abroad flock to see it.

It is the temple of Kant or Krishna in Hinduism, which is prevalent in Bengal as a religious ritual of the folk Radha-Krishna. It is believed that Maharaja Sumit Dhar Shant was born here. This ancient temple is very popular among tourists from home and abroad for its architectural style.

The temple of Kantji is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple is named Kantjiu, Kantji or Kantjir for the establishment of Kaliakanta Jiu, the idol of Sri Krishna. The area is known as Kantnagar due to the temple. That is why the temple of Kantnagar later became another name for it.

Rumor has it that the building materials for the temple were brought from the mountains and Himalayas of distant Assam. Most of the workers for its construction came from Persia. It is a famous temple in the country for its history and architecture.

20 km north of Dinajpur town and 8 km south-east of Kaharol Upazila Sadar in Sundarpur Union. There is the temple of Kantji on the banks of the river Dhempa, west of the Dinajpur-Tetulia highway. According to the inscription on the northern foundation, the then Maharaja Zamindar of Dinajpur, Prannath Roy, started the construction of the temple in his last years. He died in 1822. Later, Maharaja Ramnath Roy, the adopted son of Prannath, completed the construction in 1752 AD.

The terracotta plaques on the outer walls of the temple are inscribed with the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and various myths, plants, geometric figures of animals, etc. There are about 15,000 terracotta tiles in the whole temple. The temple has risen three steps to the top. The inner idol can be seen through all the arches around.

As soon as you enter the temple, you will first see the nests of two big pigeons. That is why its beauty stands out. Although the temple precincts are rectangular, the 50 feet high structure on a stone foundation is square. There are many grooved arches at all the entrances downstairs. The arches are separated by two brick pillars. The pillars are beautifully decorated. The stairs go up from the second verandah on the west side. There are 21 doors and arches on the ground floor and 28 on the second floor. But on the third floor it does only three.

Initially, the height of the peak was 60 feet. When the Kantji temple was hit by an earthquake in 1898, the peaks collapsed. Maharaja Girijanath made extensive reforms in it. However, the peaks have not been renovated. The architectural style, the layout, the artistic make the overall look of the temple so beautiful. There is no other eye-catching temple in the country.
