About Paharpur Buddhist Monastery
The ruins at Paharpur, which are open to excavation, are very important in Bangladesh. This ruin is the largest in the south of the Himalayas carrying the identity of a Buddhist monastery.Over the ages, the wind has blown over its ruins, and the dust gradually accumulates and takes the form of a giant high mound or hill.Probably this is the name of this place Paharpur.Excavations from 1923 to 1934 have resulted in a Gupta period copperplate and stone and bronze sculptures, terracotta plaques, engraved inscriptions, sun-dried earthenware seals, ornamental bricks, various metallic pottery, silverware. The name of this monastery is known as "Sompur Bihar".This monastery was built by Dharmapala (770-810), the second king of the Pala dynasty. It is to be noted that deep excavations in some of the monks' rooms at Paharpur Buddhist Monastery in 1982 and later found the head of a burnt earthen statue, a copper coin and some other antiquities at the lower dwelling level.Paharpur Bihar is 922 feet north-south and 919 feet east-westEntrance in the middle of the northern arm of Bihar. There are 177 quadrangular monks' rooms around the open courtyard of Biha.Surrounding the center of the courtyard, the high temple and its environs have a large collection of dedication stupas, imitations of the central temple, small temples, wells, kitchens, dining halls and small temples and other buildings.Beginning in the late ninth century, the Pala Empire was repeatedly invaded by a number of foreign kings and a local Kaivarta feudal lord named Divya. Thus, the re-attack caused special damage to Sompur Bihar.Around the same time, the Bengal army set fire to the Paharpur Buddhist monastery and temple.Bangladesh was conquered by the Sen kings in the 12th century AD.The Sen kings were early supporters of the Brahmanical religion. Thus, due to lack of royal patronage, Paharpur Sompur Vihara and temples were gradually closed. As a result, the monks and worshipers left Paharpur.
To go to Paharpur first I went to his mess with my younger brother and from there we left for PaharpurFrom the mess we go to Paharpur by motorbike, first we pay at the gate for motorbike garage. After the motorcycle garage, they handed us a piece of paper, the ticket for the motorcycle garage..
Then from there we walk a little and reach the entrance gate inside Paharpur and there we both did not cut two tickets. The ticket price was 20 rupees. Then after entering through the entrance gate we go through the main gate of Paharpur Buddhist Monastery and look around the whole monastery for once.
,This is the first picture of the place from which we started seeing the interesting aspects of Bihar. This path seems to have been used to enter the palace as there is a staircase in front. It was previously open for some time but is now closed to the public.
The crafts you can see in the picture is the view of the outer wall of Somapura Bihar. They have crafted their handicrafts and crafts on the walls with their own hands. From the outside, these works look amazing.
"Many more such artistic and archeological images and travel stories will be in my next part"
