Freedom Fighter In Our Country | Contest.
The cruelest era of presidential leadership in Uganda was said to be Idi Amin Dada’s era. There was so much torture, unjustified deaths etc. He came into power through a coup detat in 1971. In his reign anyone that was considered as a threat due to being highly educated, extremely wealthy or even well connected was normally a target who could easily be killed. Therefore, people escaped to exile. People were unsettled as they were always running for their lives thus had no time to grow food so faced the issue of famine.
His reign lasted from 1971 to 1979 and in 1980 Yoweri Kaguta the current president of Uganda fought Idi’s regime with his troops and eventually with the help of Nyerere managed to overthrow him. That is why Museveni was seen as a freedom fighter because he liberated Ugandans from such dark times. However, some new freedom fighters are coming into the scene like Bobi Wine a former musician turned presidential candidate.
He is very vocal about the injustices Uganda is facing and is has a large following. He has also faced grave injustices during his campaigns by the current government but he still manages to stand up for what he believes in. Therefore, I consider the former a freedom fighter for his actions in liberating Uganda from a dark time of oppression. I consider the latter a freedom fighter because despite suffering by the former he still fights for what he thinks is right.
