K-drama "My Roommate Is A Gumiho" became one of the popular series this year. It is an adaptation of the webtoon of the same name, there are some differences from the drama version.
My Roommate Is A Gumiho” tells the story of a nine-tailed fox (also called Gumiho in South Korean legend) named Shin Woo Yeo (Jang Ki Yong). He is in a precarious state when the marble of his life is swallowed by a history student, Lee Dam (Hyeri).
Kisan Lee Dam and Shin Woo Yeo develop in various conflicts. Especially when they live in the same house.
This fantasy and romantic comedy genre drama also stars Kang Han Na, as a nine-tailed fox who turns into a human, Yang Ye Sun; Kim Do Wan as Do Jae Jin, a student and close friend of Lee Dam; and Bae In Hyuk as popular college student Gye Seon Woo.
The following are 6 differences between the K-drama version "My Roommate Is A Gumiho" and the webtoon
1.Age of Lee Dam and Shin Woo Yeo
- In the webtoon, Shin Woo Yeo is said to have been born in the 12th year of King Ye Jong in the Goryeo Dynasty. This means that Shin Woo Yeo's age is 900 years. Meanwhile, Lee Dam is a 24-year-old student born in 1994
- In the drama, Shin Woo Yeo's age becomes 999 years old; and Lee Dam is 22 years old. This age difference not only leads to the scene where Lee Dam shows respect by prostrating himself at the first meeting. But it adds to the tension because Shin Woo Yeo only has 1 year before turning into a human
2. Lee Dam's Friendship
- The webtoon "My Roommate Is A Gumiho" tells of Lee Dam having 3 friends: Do Jae Jin, as well as Lee Yun Sang and his girlfriend, Park Ha Gyeong. All three were born in the year of the Rooster, which according to Shin Woo Yeo should be avoided from physical touch if Lee Dam doesn't want to get sick
In the play this part is changed. Lee Dam's friendship becomes Do Jae Jin and Choi Soo Kyung (Park Kyung Hye). They were born in the same year so Lee Dam doesn't have to avoid it.
On the other hand, Lee Dam had to avoid Gye Sunwoo because he was born in a different year. In the webtoon version, Lee Dam is told to avoid Gye Sunwoo because he is considered scary.
3. Shin Woo Yeo's First Appearance as Gumiho
- Shin Woo Yeo is told that he first turned into a Gumiho in order to convince Lee Dam of his true figure. While in the webtoon, Shin Woo Yeo's first appearance in the form of a Gumiho is shown from the tail on his human body
4. Lee Dam's Residence
The webtoon version shows Lee Dam living alone. So it was easy when he moved to live with Shin Woo Yeo.
In the drama version, Lee Dam is shown living with an older brother. He had to lie and find an excuse to move. This difference becomes important when Lee Dam's mother is confused about finding a place to live for her child.
5. Use of Shin Woo Yeo's Strength
- Shin Woo Yeo uses his powers recklessly and frequently in webtoons. Even for simple actions like picking up a book
- This is different from the drama version; where he only uses force in times of urgency. Like to erase memories
6. Differences in Character's Traits
There are differences in the nature of some characters between dramas and webtoons. In the webtoon, Shin Woo Yeo's character is more arrogant. He often says Lee Dam is lucky to live with such a handsome man.
This is different from drama. Shin Woo Yeo's character never mentions his appearance. Lee Dam and his friends are also described as more innocent in drama characters.
The Na above is the difference between the K-drama "My Roommate Is A Gumiho" and the webtoon version. More excited
