Victory Day of Bangladesh


Victory Day is celebrated as the special day of Bangladesh. Every year on 16th December, Bangladesh is celebrated in a special way. After 9 months of bloody war, on 16 December 1971, the Pakistani aggressors formally surrendered to the joint forces. As a result, a new independent and sovereign state called Bangladesh emerged in the heart of the world. In a circular issued on 22 January 1972, this day was declared as the National Day of Bangladesh and a public holiday. Today I will talk to you about the history of Pohela Boishakh, its celebration and some more formalities associated with it.

Surrender of Pakistani Aggressors:

After 9 months of bloody war in 1971, the Pakistani forces were forced to surrender to the joint forces of Bangladesh and India on 16 December. At 4:31 pm on the same day, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi signed the surrender document on behalf of Pakistan at the Race Course Ground in Dhaka. He surrendered to General Jagjit Singh Aurora, Chief of the Joint Forces of Bangladesh and India. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Bangladesh Mukti Bahini Abdul Karim Khandaker was present at the surrender ceremony.

The surrender of the Pakistani aggressors on 16 December 1971 marked the end of the nine-month long war of independence and the birth of an independent state called Bangladesh. In this month of independence, almost all the countries including the United Nations recognized Bangladesh.


Victory Day Celebrations

Victory Day is celebrated on 16th December every year in Bangladesh with due solemnity and great enthusiasm. The day started with 31 rounds of artillery fire in the morning.

A joint military parade was held at the National Parade Square. Members of the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force joined the parade. Millions of people flocked to the National Parade Square to watch this parade.

As part of paying homage to the martyrs of the War of Independence, various social and cultural organizations and people from all walks of life, including party leaders and activists, leaders and activists of the Opposition, laid wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar, near Dhaka.

On that day, different media highlighted this day in different ways. Special Victory Day parades are organized in almost every district of the country. Besides, special discussion programs, exchange of views, cultural programs are also organized. The main roads of the country are decorated with national flags.
