Pohela Boishakh is a traditional festival of Bangladesh. It is one of the few festivals celebrated by the people of Bangladesh. Pohela Boishakh is the first day of fast month of the Bengali year. The day begins with the first sunrise of the new year in the eastern sky. In a desperate attempt to get the good days ahead, leaving behind the days of sorrow, success and failure, the joys and sorrows of the past years. The celebration of Pohela Boishakh is the inspiration for us to move forward. It is foremost among the customs of Bangladesh and Bengalis. Bengali New Year is a joint festival of all Bengalis irrespective of religion and caste.

The beginning of Bengali New Year:

From the history of the birth and development of the Bengali nation, it is known that the culture, rituals, and festivals of Bangladesh are all based on agriculture. The Bengali year was no exception. Various festivals have been going on in our country since ancient times. The birth year of the Bengali year or Bangabda is closely associated with these festivals. The Mughal emperor Akbar ordered the creation of a separate Bengali year for Bangal in keeping with the Arabic year for his administration. He directed the introduction of this year keeping in view the benefits of collecting charge or rent from the farmers. This year was determined according to the time of harvesting in the house of the Bengali farmer at that time and according to the convenience of revenue collection in agrarian Bangal. The policy stated that the year would start from the beginning of sowing the seeds in the field and would end at the end of the harvest. According to the application of this policy, the Bengali year was introduced from the Pohela Baishakh to the thirtieth Chaitra. In line with the conventional Hijri lunar year and the Bengali solar year, the emperor's astrologer, the great scholar Amir Fatehullah Siraj, invented the Bengali year. From the time of the accession to the throne of Emperor Akbar, from March 16, 1556, the year of Bangabda began to be reckoned. And since then, people have been performing their accounts, debts, rents and various transactions on the Bengali New Year And this was the history of Bengali New Year.
