Quickly becoming one of the most developed Cities in the southern region of Nigeria with an estimated population of 1,265,000. And its natives, the Ibibio people having a reputation of being hospitable and accommodating with interesting traditional attires, celebration and dishes...
I am @manuelhooks, and I will be your tour guide taking you around the dynamic City of Uyo, the capital of AkwaIbom State in Nigeria. In the year 1987, from the then cross-river state, AkwaIbom State was carved out with Uyo as the state capital.

The people's Culture

The natives of Uyo are are a people with a rich couture carefully preserved by some groups and individual who are made custodians of the culture and the people's tradition.
An example of a group that still holds on to culture are the Ekpo, Ekpe and other social groups that strongly advocate holding on to the old ways. The old way will mean drinking water from a clay pot and building houses with mud reinforcing it with bamboo and straw.

Traditionally, the Ibibio people were governed by their beliefs in both good and bad spirit. The masquerade believed to be a human possessed by an ancestoral spirit would guide the people. The Ekpe will lead the people while the Ekpo will act as the enforcer of the law.

From the past till now, a lot has transformed the people and land scape of Uyo with the culture gradually getting adulterated. Today my town had better roads

{ 1 } Road Network

The City of Uyo is characterized by a good network of roads made up of major roads like Oron Road, Ikot Ekpene Road, Abak Road, Aka Road, Barracks Road and other connecting roads like Ring Road 1, 2 and 3. Udo Udoma Avenue, Edet Akpan Avenue and a lot of network of streets, leans, drives and close. Contrary to what it looked like ten years ago, the city of Uyo has wider roads, most of which are four lanes and other 16 leans to accommodate vehicular traffic.

{ 2 } Quenthall Pharmacy

The Quenthall facility now has a pharmacy, a medical test laboratory and a cosmetic shop all operating 24 hours round the clock. While Fack products flood the market, Quenthall has made a name as it stocks only good quality products. Though this slightly affects their prides, it has no effect on their customers who are interested in quality products regardless of the cost.
Quenthay's new location is Oron Road, and now has a better packing space

The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium stands tall among the infrastructures that define AkwaIbom, opening the state to visitors when each time football matches are hosted in the stadium. The setting capacity of the stadium is 30,000. The teams and crew members lodge at the Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort Uyo or use any other place they may choose.

{ 4 } Fully automated Car Wash

Located at Ifa Atai Etoi along Oron Road was the City's first fully automated car wash service. The facility also houses the Famous EL-BENTE pharmacy, a supermarket, a Music Studio and other businesses. This may be my last picture of this building because it is in the Path of the on going expansion of Oron Road now known as Airport Road. The next picture may be that of its ruins. I will endeavour to give you an update of their new location when they finally get relocated.

{ 5 } Dakkada Towers

Let me take you to Udo-Udoma Avenue, so you can see the tallest building we have in my city. It is a 21 storey smart building known as the Dakkada Towers to be leased out to high-earned clients like the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) which is occupying some of the space and ExxonMobil Mobil unlimited is another possible client. The building is one of a kind and will light up the place at night, making itself very easily spotted from a distance. The facility is heavily secured and the environment is attractive and quiet. It was built in less that two years by VKS Nigeria Construction Limited,

{ 6 } Kilimanjaro fast food

The City of Uyo have been a fertile ground for fast food franchise like Crunches, Mr Biggs, chicken Republic and more. This is Kilimanjaro, one of the numerous fast food in my town. This particular spot is along Oron Road in Uyo. Their chicken is very good but they are famous for their fresh hot bread. The building and signage looks magnificent when light up at night.
