I hope you are all well. I'm fine too. Today I will discuss with you about a island. It's St. Martin's Island.
St. Martin's Island is a coral and small island. It is only 8 square kilometers. Locally it is called Coconut Ginger because of the abundance of coconuts found here.
Geographical size of St. Martin's Island
Its area is about 8 square kilometers. Where the width of the island is said to be 700 meters and also said to be 200 meters.Geographically it is divided into three parts. The southern part is called Dakshinpara and is connected by a narrow tail-like area.The northern part is called Coconut Ginger Uttarpara. And to the south there is a small island measuring 100 to 500 square meters which is locally known as Chhera Island.There is no settlement here. The island can be reached on foot at low tide but by boat at high tide.
The topography of St. Martin's Island
The topography of St. Martin's Island is flat. However, sand dunes can be seen in some places. The main material of this island is limestone. The island is rich in fresh water and is conducive to crop production.
Botany of St. Martin's Island
Keora forest is what is meant by natural forest on St. Martin's Island. To the south of the island there are plenty of keora bushes. On the south side there have some mangrove tress. Other plants include coconut tree, bain, keya, sagaralata etc.
Biodiversity on St. Martin's Island
St. Martin's Island has 6 species of corals, 153 species of seaweed, 240 species of marine fish, 187 species of snails and oysters, and 157 species of herbivores.There are also 120 species of amphibians of four species.There are also 19 species of mammals. Fish include pari fish, butterfly fish, red fish, urukku fish, red koi. Sea Turtles Green Sea Turtles Olive Sea Turtles: St. Martin's Island is famous for its spawning species.
Weather on St. Martin's Island
The weather on St. Martin's Island is usually the best between November and February. And this is the main tourist season from November to February. Hurricanes are more likely to hit from March to July.
