Introduction

Independent Bangladesh and the independent Bengali Nation cannot be thought out of without Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He loved the people of this country very much. The people also loved him and call him Bangabandhu.

The great leader, the architect of independent Bangladesh, I was born on 17th March 1920 at Tungipara in Gopalganj district. His father Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and mother Sayera Khatun. As he was closely related with the cultivators, he could realise the hard life of cultivators, labours and the workmen. Therefore, he struggled for the liberation of this country from foreign domination and make its people happy till his death. The struggle result in the present Independent and sovereign Bangladesh.

Boyhood and Education

In his boyhood he was active and courageous. He used to protest against wrong deeds. He enjoyed natural sights of Bangladesh. He used to you look at the flying birds. He felt sad to see the hard labour of the poor cultivators and sufferings of workmen. Source

So he nurtured a dream to build a happy and prosperous Sonar Bangla. After his education at the Gimanda primary school, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman got himself admitted into the Gopalganj mission High School and past entrance from there. thereafter he fast BA from Calcutta Islamia College. At this time he took part in active politics .While studying law in the Dhaka University , he started agitationagainst the Pakistan government, he was imprisoned by the Pakistan government in 1948. So he could not complete his law course.

Liberation War

A little after the creation of Pakistan it was evident that we were not really independent. In 1948 Urdu was declared
the state language of Pakistan ignoring Bangla, the language of the majority people. The student community protested. A meeting of the state language committee was held on 16th March, 1948 in the Dhaka University. Sheikh mujib presided over this meeting. He became the General Secretary of Awami League in 1953 and formed the United front in co-operation with Sher- e-Bangla A K Fazlul Haque. The United front defeated the Muslim League. Sheikh mujib became a a provincial Minister under the United front Govt. But this Govt. Sale due to Pakistani conspiracy and oppression was let loose on the Bengalees. Martial law was proclaimed . Bangalees lost their political right. Sheikh Mujib started movement for recovery of the lost right. The discrimination between the two parts of Pakistan was so wide that the Bangalees why not given more than 15% appointments in their higher posts. In protest against science discriminations, Sheikh mujib agitated mass movement and declared 6 point demand. Source

"Agartala Conspiracy Case" was involving Sheikh mujib as their chief accused. There was an upsurge of mass movement. Ayub Govt. Was compelled to release Sheikh mujib and withdraw the "Agartala Conspiracy Case". In the general election of 1970, the Awami league, under the leadership of Sheikh Mujib, won maximum seats. What the Pakistan Govt. Did not handover power to the Bangalees. On the 7th March, 1971 Sheikh Mujibur declared in the Suhrawardy Uddan . " The struggle of this time is struggle for liberation, the struggle of this time is a struggle for freedom." This thunderous declaration inspired the Bangalees . Pakistanis were bewildered. On the midnight of 25th March, 1971 Pakistan army fell upon The sleeping Bangladesh and started genocide. Sheikh Mujib was arrested and taking over to West Pakistan. Before his address he declared the independence of Bangladesh. Why Sheikh Mujib was a captive in Pakistan, our liberation was started. Russian revolution was not possible without Lenin, so also the freedom struggle of bengalis wouldn't be happen without Sheikh Mujib. He was not present in the freedom struggle, but his absence was more inspiring. He brought the Bangalees freedom and the bengalis gave him honour, which they did never give to anybody. He returned to Bangladesh on 10th January , 1972 and took over charge of the government.

Characteristics

Sheikh Mujib was the symbol of hopes and aspirations of thr Bangalees. Strong personality, obstinacy, determination and indomitable courage were his characteristics.

His speech Charmed the audience. So he was known as the thunder voice. He did never compromise with injustice, suppression and operation. His fellow-feeling, liberality and love for people could not make him harsh. For this reason, he was not as efficient an administrator as was in protestation."
