How to Plant and Care for Amaryllis This Winter - The Easy Way!
When you think of amaryllis, what do you think of? Do you think about a beautiful flower that can be grown year-round indoors and comes in many types and colors? Most people who grow amaryllis plants are surprised to find out how easy it is to care for them. Amaryllis likes the same soil as African violet (peat moss or sand with equal parts perlite), but they need more light than that plant does. They also like regular watering while their roots build up strength so don’t over water them! One way to check if your amaryllis needs watering is by feeling the top inch or so of potting mix: if it feels dry, then give it some water. If not, you can wait until the next day.

Amaryllis are bulbs that need to stay in dormancy or they will die. When your amaryllis is ready for bloom, put it outside in a sunny location during the day and bring it back inside at night, gradually leaving it out longer each day. Be sure to give it a good drink before you bring it back inside for the night. After your plant flowers, you can cut off the flower stalk or leave it though it looks better to remove it. What do you do with your amaryllis bulb after flowering? You can dry and store them if they are small enough to fit in a container without exposing too much of the bulb. Then, you can replant them in a pot and wait for them to bloom again!
