“To know a second language is to have a second soul.”
Bi means two and lingual means language. Bilingual education is where students are taught more than one language, the first being their mother tongue and the second usually being the international language, English.
Bilingual education is provided to students in many countries which gives them the advantage of knowing English, which is spoken world wide by almost everyone. Where bilingual education is absent, there comes a huge communication gap between the foreigners and locals, making it difficult to understand and connect.
If we take the example of our home country, Pakistan, we are taught Urdu and English as language subjects. Since grade one we are taught English while we begin speaking Urdu at our homes. At school we learn how to properly speak, read and write English and our Urdu speaking skills are further polished along with reading and writing it too.
At many higher education institutions bilingual education is of English and Chinese language. Eventually Pakistani students become trilingual, knowing English, Urdu as well as Chinese. Knowing Chinese is also and advantage here in this country as well as internationally considering how deep the Pak-China friendship is and how China is one of the leading countries of the world respectively.

Students who receive bilingual education tend to be more inclined towards learning more and have a stronger growth mind set as compared to the students who are taught only their mother language. They are better at communicating to different people and have more diverse knowledge about the culture their second language holds.
Bilingual education helps develop cognitive skills such as logical and critical thinking, problem solving and creativity. It enables your brain to think in a variety of ways and exposes you to new words, vocabulary and phonetics.
When you know a second or even a third language, a whole new world can open for you according to many writers, poets and literature enthusiasts. It’s a known fact that people are more comfortable communicating in their home language, imagine how great it would be to talk to foreigners in their language and getting to know every bit of their ways and culture better than any social media or book could describe!
