Oral Health Awareness Session | Foot Path School, Karachi | By @kinzaghauri
Hey Guys!
Here to post about something which is really close to my heart. Read it till the end, I promise it will be worth it.
Being a dental student, and now Allhumdulillah a dentist, we are taught since the very beginning of our training how important Oral Health is. And in addition to implementing it in our lives, it's our responsibility to share this with our friends, family and whoever we come across.
OUTREACH PROGRAMS
For that very reason, we go to different schools and sites for our outreach programs so we're able to make an impact on other people too. I will share more sessions like these in my upcoming posts but for now, I would just like to stick to this particular session that we did in a FOOT PATH SCHOOL.
THE IMPACT IT HAD ON ME
This session, personally, is very close to my heart because it made me realize how privilege we are and how we take everything so much for granted. How things as little as tooth brushes and toothpastes are too much for some people to afford in this world. i still get teary eyed just thinking about the kids in that school.
FOOT PATH SCHOOL
Here's a picture from the Foot Path school. I will also share it's location if any of you ever want to visit.
For us this session was supposed to be like any other awareness session, but it made such an impact in all of our lives that I still can't describe it in words.
WHAT HAPPENED THERE
We were warmly welcomed by their teachers and introduced as Doctors to all the kids. The excitement they had on their faces, still makes my heart melts. the session started like any other event, With the recitation of HOLY QURAN, which was done by one of the students.
We then moved onto asking the kids about their school and eventually to what we came for.
We were literally taken a back when we found out some of the students there, had not brushed their teeth for more than a month and the few didn't even own a brush. The more I talked to them, the more I felt how extremely ungrateful we are.
Before we taught them anything about Oral Health, we gave them all a tooth brush and a toothpaste. If you had been there, I kid you not, you would've shed a tear as well.
Finally, after distributing those, we moved on to teach them *HOW, WHEN, WHY to brush their teeth. They had the most innocent of questions ready for us, and we loved every moment we spent with them.
WE CAME BACK, EXTREMELY HUMBLED AND GREATEFUL FOR THE FACT THT WE WERE GIVEN A CHANCE TO MAKE AN IMPACT ON KIDS INNOCENT AS THOSE. THEIR SMILES WERE CONTAGIOUS, STILL MAKES ME SMILE WHENEVER S SEE A PICTURE OF THEM.
Ending on a lighter note; help people however you can, you don't know the impact you're making on someone's life. You might not remember them the next day but they will, FOR SURE, remember you for the rest of their lives
