A speech Made by Edhi | The Greatest Humanitarian Of Our Times

Who Was Edhi

Edhi was a man who lived 88 years of life out of which he served humanity for more than 60 years by founding the Edhi welfare foundation. He told during a visit to the International Balzan foundation in Rome, Italy that it was his mother who taught him kindness towards humans who were not able to take care of themselves. The contentment he felt while he cared for his mother was still not gone even after his mother died as every aged and paralyzed woman who was taken care of within his organization reminded him of her.

Reasons For Loving Him

He mentioned that the world has been turned into a global village as no one is alone anymore. If a soul suffers in any region, the whole world gets uneasy. This feeling of uneasiness is spread and can be felt due to instant communication of people and it helps welfare organizations too as their task of searching for such victims becomes much easier.
Talking about how he started his foundation from a rented room which he turned into a dispensary providing free medication to needy people and then receiving a donation of an ambulance in 1957 has now been turned into the largest ambulance organization recognized by the Guinness book of world record. He told that his foundation never accepted any donation provided by other organizations and not even from local or foreign governments.

His Achievements

This organization provides food, clothing, and shelter to children, women and men in need. Mentally disturbed individuals are specially taken care of. Unwanted abandoned children are protected and raised here. Later they can be adopted by different willing families. These children are not just fed but also provided education. Medical health facilities like eye care and radiotherapy center for cancer patients are also available.
He talked about the burial of thousands of unclaimed bodies and the services of the Edhi foundation in various regions of the world like during calamity strikes such as famine of Iran, Egypt, and Somalia etc. It provided aid to the refugees of Palestine, Kashmir and also helped the flood victims of Bangladesh. Edhi welfare centres have also been established in Canada, America, the United Kingdom and UAE. He emphasized the importance of providing food, clothing, shelter and education to all the needy ones out there as it is a basic human right and the world needs peace, not war as it can only lead towards bloodshed. He concluded his speech by paying his regards and telling that he owns nothing except for 2 pairs of clothing which he wears and the small room which his mother left from where he began his work.

His Death Was A Great Loss To Humanity

This great man was born in 1928 in the Gujrat state of India from where he along with his family migrated to Karachi after the independence founded this Edhi foundation in the year 1974. His wife Bilquis still serves in Karachi Edhi center whereas her husband; the great humanitarian who passed away on July 8th of 2016 was buried by being granted a funeral with guards of honour and a 19 gun salute. He may not be alive anymore but he will always remain alive in the hearts of millions of people.
