Before I go to the main topic of discussion, I will like to give you some brief information and history about Nigeria my country. Nigeria was created by a man called Lord Lugard about 104 years ago. The name 'Nigeria' was given by Lugard's wife Flora shaw. The British colonized Nigeria from year 1861 till year 1960 when Nigeria gained independence and on the 1st of October 1963 precisely, Nigeria officially became a Republic. Shehu Shagari was the first democratically elected president of Nigeria and since then we've had some series of other presidents who have come and gone. Currently, Muhammadu Buhari is the president of the country. Nigeria has a population of over 200 million people hence it is referred to as the giant of Africa. It also consist of 36 states including the Federal capital Territory Abuja. Nigeria also has over 300 ethnic groups and 3 major tribe which are Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. The official language of the people is English.

Nigeria has produced some of the finest personalities recognized across the globe and they are influential people. Some of them include Grammy award winning musician - Burna Boy, the richest man in Africa - Aliko Dangote, director general of the WTO - Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, award winning kickboxer - Isreal Adesanya and so on. Nigerian is blessed with great and amazing people and I'm happy to be a citizen of this country.

AVALABILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

The country is blessed with Natural and abundant mineral resources like Iron, Tin, Bitumen, Coal, Columbite, Steel, Crude oil, Cocoa, Cassava, Zinc. Actually, the crude oil (petroleum) is arguably the most important natural resources that we have because that is what bring the highest revenue for the government and it is also the most important source of foreign exchange for the country. Also, reports has it that the country is the 9th largest in terms of global oil reserve. Not only that as far as the Africa region is concerned, Nigeria has the largest oil and gas reserve with an estimated 37 million barrels of crude oil and 5.5 trillion cubic meters of gas.

TOURIST ATTRACTION

Nigeria is blessed with a lot of natural beauties and recreational centers which has attracted a lot of people and even foreigner to come for tourism in the country. In 2020, reports has it that Travel and Tourism contributed about 2.8% to Nigeria GDP which is quite amazing if you ask me. No doubt tourism presents economic, social and technological opportunities for Nigeria. Some of the popular tourist attractions we have in Nigeria includes : Obudu Cattle Ranch, Idanre Hills, Yankari Games Reserve, Ikogosi Water Spring, Olumo Rock, Erin Ijesha Waterfall, Kainji Lake National Park etc

BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING PEOPLE

Trust me, Nigerians are beautiful and amazing people, this is one good thing I like about the country. The people are loving and accommodating. It's amazing that people of different tribes, languages and religious belief still co-exist in harmony and unity. Nigerians are also hardworking people and they are celebrated all over the world.

THREE THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE

INSECURITY

I think this is is one major issue that a lot of Nigerians are currently facing. The level of security in the country is relatively poor. I think the government of the country still has so much to do concerning this. Nearly everyday we hear of different attacks in some parts of the country which is quite worrisome. I think for the country to progress forward there is need to create a secure nation and environment for the citizens to thrive.

UNEMPLOYMENT

This is another worrisome problem the youths of the country are facing, it's very disappointing that there is high level of unemployment in the country. Many of our youths that are graduates have nothing to do and you see them just roaming aimlessly and helplessly around the streets. I think the government has a lot to do in this regard so that we can have more prosperous youth and a nation as a whole.

LACK OF SOCIAL/BASIC AMENITIES

Nigerians are seriously deprived of social and basic amenities which includes good roads, electricity, quality healthcare, good water, schools etc. The citizens are really not enjoying all this up to satisfaction. Those living in the rural areas especially have been neglected and much needs to be done by the government to cater for the welfare of the citizens in general.

Nigeria is a great Nation filled with wonderful people and I can say that the future is bright. I will continue to give my best towards ensuring that the country becomes great and prosperous. United we stand, divided we fall. I am happy to be a Nigerian and I'm proud of my country.
