Weekly Engagement || Week # 16 || City Life VS Village Life

in STEEMIT PAKISTAN3 years ago

Hello friends,

I actively participate in weekly engagement contest but this time I was confused whether to participate or not. As I haven't lived in a village nor seen the village life closely. I don't even come under the category of city life, if we see technically. I have lived in small towns that are similar to village- area wise, but have the lifestyle of a city. Upon pondering hard over this fact, I came to a conclusion that I can actually make good comparisons between both lives having experienced both, unknowingly. I will share my real life experiences so that I don't sound too boring and I will try hard not to make this post a tedious school essay. 😛

I grew up in a small colony of one of the biggest industrial company of Pakistan. I got married to a military guy and I still live in small areas and colonies. Sharing my reflection:

Pros of Village/Small Town or Cons of Cities

Peace and Tranquility

I love the peace in the atmosphere of small towns similar to village. The tranquility in the environment is mind soothing. I enjoy going out at any hour without the hustle bustle of traffic. I feel more close to nature when I hear the rustle of leaves and the chirp of birds. Something that you don't find much in cities. I can reflect on things without distraction and can think more clearly. In short, mind gets positive vibes and reflects positive energy in whatever I do.

Social Life is Better

In this era of technology, we have become dependent on social media to satisfy our social needs which is not healthy for mind. We hear that people know each other on first term basis in villages. Bonds are stronger and pure. People genuinely care about each other. I think that is absolutely true. I have lived in small towns, there my social life was really good. I hang out with my friends often. We know what's going on in each others' life. I have lived in Karachi too for 2 years. I loved my time there but to be honest my social life there was close to zero. Whenever, I had time I was just out, exploring the city. Not meeting with friends. Didn't know what was going on in others' life as I was so much busy in my own plans.

Lesser Pollution and Healthy Life

Villages or small towns are free of every type of pollution. Not entirely free but are better in comparison to cities. There is less traffic and no industries to make noise or air pollution. When I used to live in the residential area of an industry, I had to face a lot of air and water pollution because there was a lot of ammonia in the air and residue of factory was polluting water too. But the land area was small and very well maintained. There was zero land pollution. Streets were super clean and no one could spot garbage littering around. Now I don't live in industrial area but the town is still small so the place is land, water and air pollution free. There is a bit of noise pollution of jets though. Lesser Pollution in villages results in the better health of the people. Generally, they are more active and sporty than city people.

Security and Less Crimes

I have lived in highly secured places where crimes were almost zero. And I think village is also securer than city and crime rate is less too. Village people are mostly innocent and straightforward, maybe that's the reason.

Better Education

The schools were really competitive and teachers were highly qualified in the town I spent my childhood. But the one drawback was that there was no university there. To pursue my higher education, I had to leave my home and move to a big city. It's quite understandable that universities can't be made in every little town. But still it's a shortcoming of a village or town life.

Better Medical Facilities

I remember when first time my father got Angina attack, we were living happily in our small perfect town. There was a hospital there but no specialists. For serious medical issues, doctors used to refer the patients to a nearby city which was good 37km away with a lot of traffic. So it took at least an hour to go there. My father was out for his night walk with my mom when he suddenly got the attack. We immediately took him to the local hospital. They checked his vitals and provided him immediate care. He had a minor attack so he got better in few hours. But I got so scared that what if his situation worsened and he needed immediate treatment, there was no heart specialist there. Next day, out of fear, we took him to the big city and stayed there and got his Angioplasty done and came back home only after we were sure that he was out of danger. So I think Cities score on this one for having better medical facilities.

Better Job Opportunities

Having a professional degree, I couldn't pursue my career. Only because we usually live in small towns and there are very less job opportunities. I wanted to work in a big software house but I can't find one in a small town. Or no one can find it in a village. In cities, there are a lot of professions and competition but in small town there is none.

Better Accessibility to Basic Necessities

Cities provide better life necessities as well as luxuries. There is a lot of variety and options of things in cities. One is not restricted to use same brand. Most common example is that, I can't find my favorite shampoo in the small town I live. When I was in Karachi, I didn't have to worry about such things like what if I not get the desired product. Now I have to skip what I want or I have to order online.

Better Law Enforcement

No doubt, the crime rate in cities is higher. But I think the law enforcement there is better too. Police take care of the matters. But in village there is no such thing. People are their own Police. The place where I live, the laws are strict since it's a hybrid of city and village but one thing I hate is that, if by any chances you hit a car or break any other law, every one will start pointing fingers at you. Not caring, how much you were at error. People will talk about you, gossip about you a lot, in fact gossips travel like fire in small places. Whereas, in cities nobody gives a damn what other people do. Only law takes care of that.

The comparisons between the two lives are endless. I can't put them down in one single post. I think these are some major differences between both the lives.

My preference: I would prefer small town lives any time. Not village life, but small towns with luxuries of city life and peace of village life.
Thank you!
