Hello, my fellow steemians and welcome to this post of mine where I will share with you, some of my personal modes of controlling negative emotions.
How to control negative emotions
We will focus only on the following different negative emotions - sadness, depression and anger. But before that, let us define them.
Sadness
"The state or emotion of being sad."
-English Dictionary.
Most at times, when something sorrowful happens, people usually feel sad about it and they are just so down. This is normal and okay, until when it reaches the point of depression.
Depression.
"A state of mind producing serious, long-term lowering of enjoyment of life or inability to visualize a happy future."
-English Dictionary.
Depression, is one of the diseases that has led to the death of a lot of youths nowadays. Depression often leads people to be in a state of extreme sadness and lonliness. This has caused so many lives to be ruined and damaged.
Anger
"A strong feeling of displeasure, hostility or antagonism towards someone or something, usually combined with an urge to harm."
-English Dictionary.
Anger, a very common emotion and if not controlled, can lead to tragedy.
Here are a few ways to manage these emotions and states of mind.
1. Read your Bible and pray often.
This is the most important management system and that is why I put it as number 1.
Whenever you feel down, sad, angry or you even feel yourself entrying a state of depression, take it to God through prayer.
This is the highest method that when I was a kid, I saw my mother and other older persons do. In difficult times, we have to turn to God and pray, for He is the truth and the light.
2. Drink water and sleep.
Whenever I tell people that water is life, they don't believe me. But when they feel angry, they remember me telling them to drink water and when they do, they feel better and report back with great news.
When you are angry, try and get a glass of water and drink. After that, get comfortable and rest.

3. Forgive and forget.
This is the most undermined part which is in itself very essential.
The moment one learns to forgive and forget, the more one will find peace of mind which can reduce sadness.
Forgiving is one thing, another is asking for forgiveness. This is difficult because of pride.
When you achieve peace of mind, it decreases the chances of you ever falling into depression.
4. Whenever you have the chance to do something, do it.
There is no time like the present. So whenever you have something to do, just get it over with already. Most people feel depressed because they feel a lot of regret.
Do things so that, if you stand somewhere today, you don't feel bad about not doing it.
5. Learn to find self-love.
On of the highest reasons for depression is the lack of self-love. People often try so much to be other people in such a way that they even forget to love themselves for they are.
Once a person has low self-esteem, sadness and depression is an after-effect.
So let's try to love ourselves for being who we are no matter what others may say.
So these are the ways I treat negative emotions.
