My name is Diala Gideon Adorable, the name of my country is Nigeria. Nigeria is a country located in west Africa with official language as English. With a total land area of 923,770 squared kilometer it has thirty-six states and a federal capital. Last collected in 2012 by the Nigeria National Bureau of Statistics, the total population of citizens in Nigeria was around 166.2 million people, which should be much more than 200 million people by estimation currently.

Nigeria is not a landlocked country, though she shares borders with countries like Cameroun, Niger Republic and chad.
By this figure Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa.

National Symbols

The Nigeria flag has three vertical division of green, white, green. The green represents natural wealth and agriculture while the white represents peace. And we have the coat of arm.

The Coat of Arms consists of the images that express different meanings: Black shield and colorful wreath over the shield stand for fertile soil of Nigeria; White horses mean dignity; Red Eagle is for the strength of the nation; White lines in the “Y” shape stand for two main rivers of Nigeria: Benue and Niger; Yellow Trumpet or Costus Spectabilis is the national flower of Nigeria. The flower is placed on the ground where the shield is standing. It represents the beauty of the country and its nation; “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress” line beneath the shield is the Nigerian national motto. It was adopted in 1978. The purpose is to inspire the nation to be united, faithful, live in peace and grow, become wiser and stronger.src

Nigeria is blessed with several natural resources which have generated a lot of revenue for the country.

In Nigeria we have about thirty ethnic groups. With so many languages. This is our diversity and which is also part of our strength.

Three reasons why I Love my country

green line.png

1. We Practice Democracy

Nigeria is a country that practices democracy. Not every country in Africa and the world at large practice democracy. A few countries in the world do not have the opportunity to enjoy true democracy. Some countries have presidents ruling for 10, 20, and some even 30 years without visible achievement. Some countries still practice the monarch system of government like Swaziland and some ruled by dictator.

I am glad that in Nigeria we have a democratic system of government where we are allowed to exercise our civic duties/right to choose leaders we prefer. In Nigeria people have a voice. And this is great.

2. We are rich with Rich individuals

Nigeria is a country endowed with so many natural resources and as a result Nigeria is very rich. Some of the natural resources in Nigeria is: petroleum, natural gas, tin, iron ore, coal, limestone, niobium, lead, zinc and arable land.
Agriculture is another main stay of the economy as the land in Nigeria is fertile and arable.
It will also interest you to know that the richest man in Africa is from our great country Nigeria and several other billionaires and world influencers which is something to be proud of.

3. Our Adaptability

Nigerians are very adaptable. They know how to survive in any condition or environment they find themselves in. This has helped push the entrepreneurial drive of many Nigerians over the decades. Only a few contry have gone through the crises Nigeria has been to and remained same country.

Three things I will like to change

green line.png

1. Recent Neglect of the educational sector

The educational system in Nigeria is a mess and in real crises, terrible condition of service, neglect, waste of resources and so many other reasons to mention but a few. The country has about 10 million out of school students, and several millions of out of school students.

This doesn’t end there. So many young Nigerians struggle to get admission into public institution of higher learning. The tuition fees are skyrocketing and so many unfavorable conditions around the education sector in Nigeria.
I do hope that this factors will be considered by the new government that will emerge soon.

2. Tribalism and nepotism

Tribalism is one of the problems facing Nigeria. It has affected almost every sector of the country, politics and governance is the worse hit. politics in Nigeria has always been that of “ Tribalism and Nepotism” which has eaten deep into our national values and sense of cultural co-existence as a nation, neglecting this issue of nepotism and tribalism is like having a bullet wound and taking pain killer instead of getting appropriate treatment. We may consider a tribal war as gnat on the toe of a giant, but these petty wars could explode into something greater and un-resolvable, just as seen in some countries.
I still wonder why a lot of people feel so superior about their tribes over others, and on the other hand, why some high level educated citizens are caught in this uncivilized tradition?

This category of people discourage association in any form, be it marriage, work, or friendship with tribes they deem to be inferior. In most cases they have derogatory names for the tribes they deem to be inferior.

3. Insecurity

Nigerians are faced with terrorist activities and war-like situations in states like Yobe, Borno, Adamawa and Taraba, banditry in Zamfara, Bauchi, Kaduna, Kastina and Kano and kidnapping in Kaduna–Abuja road, now extended to Niger state, a border state with the FCT. These activities include suicide bomb attacks, sporadic shooting of unarmed and innocent citizens, burning of police stations, churches, kidnapping and raping of school girls and women.

The attacks carried out by the herdsmen on some communities in the north and south have been another great major challenge of insecurity facing the country. Many lives and properties have been lost and a large number of citizens rendered homeless. Families have lost their loved ones, many women are now widows, Children becoming orphans with no hope of what the future holds for them.

These and many more have negative implications for national development. Insecurity has reduced the confidence of foreign investors in Nigeria.

The security condition is real concern and I recommend that the government of Nigeria should have zero tolerance for wars and terrorism as well as seek assistance from and advice from international communities who have experienced similar things and stood. As well as empower the military to help fight insurgency and guard our borders properly.
Concerning herders crises I recommend that ranches should be built in different states to prevent headers and farmers crises.

Definitely it will be a better place. Though we all have our parts to play in achieving this

Yeah... Definitely we have our parts to play and it should not be neglected.
I will love to read more post from you.

That's true, there's recently been an abject neglect for education in the country. But that's also a matter of nepotism if you know what I mean.

The value for education was eroded a while ago.

I hope this change too.

Nice write up. Keep it up.

Thanks for reading through and dropping a comment. Lets remain positive and optimistic. The change we desire isn't far away.

Thankyou for taking part in this contest.
