Faiz Ahmad Faiz was born in Sialkot to a graduate family. His father Muhammad Sultan Khan was a barrister
Faiz's early education began in the Oriental style and he memorized two passages of the Qur'an, then focused on teaching Arabic as well as English. Faiz earned his MA in Arabic and English. While studying at Government College Lahore, he had special subjects in Philosophy and English.
In this college he met teachers like Ahmad Shah Bukhari "Peter" and Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum.

Faiz has two daughters, Saleema Hashmi and Munira Hashmi.
At the insistence of Mian Iftikhar-ud-Din, Faiz Sahib started working as the Editor-in-Chief of his newspaper "Pakistan Times" The year 1951 brought a message of hardship and poetry to Faiz's life. He was arrested in a conspiracy to overthrow the government, known as the Rawalpindi conspiracy case.
He spent almost five years in different jails in Pakistan. His sentence was finally commuted in April 1955. After his release, he moved to London. Faiz returned to Pakistan in 1958
But the prison was waiting for him again. Alexander Mirza's government arrested him again for publishing and distributing communist material. This time he was released in 1960 as a result of the efforts of his admirer Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and he moved first to Moscow and then to London. In 1962 he received the Lenin Peace Prize by the Government.
After receiving the Lenin Prize, Faiz's fame, which was still limited to India and Pakistan, spread all over the world, especially to the countries of the Soviet bloc. He frequently visited foreign countries and gave lectures there. His poetry began to be translated into different languages ​​and research work on his poetry began. Faiz returned to Pakistan in 1964 and settled in Karachi

Faiz generally lived a better life than an ordinary writer and poet. He was always surrounded by people's love. Wherever he went, people loved him madly. Faiz is primarily a romantic poet, and his poetry has always had the support of lovers
Faiz's poetic value can be gauged from the fact that his name is associated with great poets like Ghalib and Iqbal. Had gained fame.
The international recognition of modern Urdu poetry is due to him. His voice in the form of heart touching revolutionary songs, heartfelt songs of beauty and love, and protest songs against oppression and exploitation of man and his conscience. Emerges as an effective voice.
