Steem Fiction Contes #3 : My Preference

Hello my dear friend, @hive-136968, thank you so much for inviting me to this lovely contest. I enjoy writing fiction, therefore I'm glad that you organized a competition to judge our creativity.

Terence's mind was also getting strange from the inside. Leaving Veenu and going back to duty, his life was threatened just thinking about it, but duty is duty. He was a paracommando, so there was an additional responsibility on his shoulders.

He was trying to keep Veenu happy so he could spend these few days with her in love and peace, but he was seeing that Veenu's eyes were filled with tears time and again. She kept silently wiping her tears, but Terence could understand her feelings

Ten of the fifteen days of his leave had already passed. Terrence remembered how he thought about Veenu day in and day out during duty, and even after coming here, he could not sleep properly.

He stayed awake all night, looking at Veenu and stroking her hair. He didn't know how many months after going back from here he would not be able to see her again or if he would ever be able to see her or not.

There was pandemonium in his heart as he felt he would become the target of a bullet in the forest in the next search operation.

He silently wiped his eyes. He was a commando, but he was also a husband, and he loved his wife more than himself.

As a para commando, he was aware of the danger to his life. Only five days remain for him to stay with his wife. Despite his sadness, he made an effort to interact with Veenu normally. When he had free time, he wandered everywhere in their garden, holding her hand securely. Together, they prepared their meals. Then he fed his wife Veenu and Veenu fed Terance. They conversed as much as they could and shared laughter. Veenu gently stroked Terrance’s hair while Terance had his head on her lap. He was aware that Veenu was sobbing deeply, and Veenu was aware that Terance doing the same. They were both crying secretly and were not letting each other see it.

The four days passed quickly. They only had one more night together to cuddle and sleep. That night arrived. They whispered to each other and they slept together. Terance's heart wrenched as he was reminded of saying goodbye the following morning. He tightly pressed Veenu against his body as if fearing that she would be stolen by others.

It was time now to say goodbye to each other. What a sad moment that was. They give each other a strong hug, and kiss, and say goodbye with the promise of soon being back together. Veenu was sobbing uncontrollably, yet she was brave enough to hide her sorrow. Terance silently appreciate Veenu's bravery. Terance waved his hand until he failed to catch a glimpse of the Veenu, and departed.

As soon as Terance arrived at his place of employment, he called Veenu to let her know he had arrived safely. Thus, a week went by during which time, they had phone conversations. At the beginning of the second week, the enemy started to attack Terance's team. The war was going badly. Terance and his team were on the front line against the enemy. The soldiers without going back, bravely went forward while firing at the enemies. Bad luck, Terance was wounded by an enemy handgun.

One of Terance's friends saw that he had been shot and dragged him to the side of a bush. The bullet had pierced Terance's chest. By pressing his hand over Terace's wound, the friend attempted to stop the blood and realized that he was still conscious. Terance opened his eyes and sent glances in all directions. Only his wife Veenu was he could recall. He firmly grasped his friend's hand while muttering "V.....e...e...n...u.". His eyes closed. That marked Terance's passing.
