I am happy to write another interesting topic which every business man or woman who wants to be successful in business must know and embrace. You may be wondering what is this topic? Is a simple but powerful topic which is: Business Ethics. I will want you to read patiently for better understanding.

What is the meaning of business: There are many definitions of business but I will like to define business in my own term. The meaning of the word business can be defined as the exchange of goods and services. It can also be a transaction which may involve; money, goods, ideas, knowledge etc.

Business can also mean a person's occupation or work, profession, trade etc. It can also be associated with commerce or commercial establishments.

Ethics: Ethics is the basic principle which deals with morality, relates right from wrong conduct.
It can also be the generally accepted way of relating, behaviour and the way of doing things.

Business Ethics
Business ethics can simply be defined as the right attitude towards your work or business. It is the acceptable behaviour towards ones profession, work or business. Business ethics are guided and controlled by certain rules. These rules helps to avoid illegal activities and maintain standards both as an institution, company and individual. Business ethics helps an organisation or group of people (cooperative) to keep and maintain their integrity, personality, reputation and ensures accountability in running of a business. It determines how employer and employee relates, customer- staff service and also how colleagues relates and interacts with one another.
In other words, business ethics are the right attitude to work.

Some of these ethics include:

• Truthfulness
• Self control
• Dedication
• Punctuality
• Uprightness
• Regularity
• Diaphaneity
• Ardency
• Recognition
• Hardworking

Truthfulness

Truthfulness is one of business ethics that needs to be upheld by any individual or organisation. It is one of the right attitude to work which allude moral standard of telling the truth at all time the matter the condition or circumstance. It includes not lying, cheating or stealing and also being straightforwardness. The attitude of truthfulness will make people feel safe around you and that will create a trustworthy environment within and outside your work area.

Self Control

Self control is a person's ability to checkmate is actions, behaviour and emotions. It is a very good attitude to exhibit in work. Self control can also mean discipline. When you are discipline, you will have the capacity to obey, you will be humble and will always be positive and these will yield positive results.

Dedication

Dedication means being committed or devoted to your duty. In business, your time, attention, interest and resources are required, and for one to meet up these demands, he/she must be someone who is so committed to his/her duties. Being committed (dedicated) increases and improves ones performance thus, produces good result at work. Being dedicated helps you manage your time in the sense that, little investment of time produces huge results.

Punctuality

Punctuality is the state of being punctual
It is a condition of being on time or early to an event, occasion or work. Punctuality is a very sensitive aspect of business ethics because an adage rightly states that "time is money". Any business man or woman who is not conscious with time is already a failure. An employee who is not punctual is knocking at the door of job dismissal (sack) because no employer will want to employ and retain a late comer as a staff. There is a popular saying that punctuality is the soul of any business be it small,medium or large scale business because the growth and development of each depends basically on time.

Manage your time properly and in order to do that, you must prioritize your project or work for the day and always time yourself. Set a time that you are likely to accomplish a particular task this will really help you in being punctual. Punctuality Increases productivity because you have enough time to invest in your work.

Uprightness

It is a good moral value which shows sincerity. Uprightness can also be called integrity. A person of integrity is a person who stands by his words, principles and standards. He doesn't compromise no matter what and who is involved. There are many ways you can show integrity they are: selflessness, avoiding bribery and corruption, not stealing or taking anything that doesn't belong to you, not being envy or jealous of people's success etc.

Regularity

Regularity is another attitude toward work. Regularity is the state of being steady and consistence in work. As a business Man or an employee you don't need to be skipping work unnecessarily as this will affect the rate of productivity. Consistency is the act of being firm and standby but it doesn't mean that you will be stagnant but it mean being committed to your work which include devising new and effective strategy in developing the business.

Diaphaneity

Diaphaneity is the act of being transparent. Being transparent is the act of being open, not being secretive but being honest in discharging your duty. Being transparent makes it easy for people you are working with to see the point you are going without stress and it creates a truth worthy environment and promotes productivity.

Ardency

Ardency is the state of being zealous in whatever you are doing. Taking what you do to heart and not just doing it for doing sake. It entails being passionate about your work. When you are passionate about what you do, you won't find your work difficult but it's easier for you because you love and enjoy what you do. When you enjoy what you do, it will make you put in your very best in order to see that the work progresses. Ardency is the key that motivates you to do more. It is very important that when you want to choose a business or work you want to venture into, ensure that you are passionate about the work as it will help you never to give up no matter the challenges that you might encounter at the course of discharging your duty.

Recognition

Recognition is the act of making someone feel valued and important. It is the act of showing respect. There are alot of ways you can show respect; you can show respect to your work, business, colleagues at work and customers.
Showing respect to work include valuing your work and following the required processes in accomplishing it. The people you work with also deserves your respect, you show respect by recognising and acknowledging their efforts, seeking for their opinion where you are confused, it will promipeace, unity and progress in your workplace.
Your customers/clients also deserves your respect. You don't treat customers as if they are nothing and that you can do without them. Whether big or small, and no matter their social status, accord them respect. Make them feel valued, recognized and cherished. If you do these, you can never lose your customers to others because they will always be there because of your nice treatment towards them.
And bear it in mind that when you respect them, they will in turn respect you because it is said that "respect is a reciprocal.

Hardworking

Hardworking is one of the quality that an employer checkmates in before employing an employee. Hardworking is a quality of working hard in an orderly way. A person in a work environment or business is not expected to lazy around. Laziness results in procrastination, and procrastination leads to delay in productivity and delay in productivity leads to failure in business.
As a business man or woman who wants to be successful, you must be diligence in discharging your duties, you don't work in a haphazard way you are always careful and observant to whatever you do; though being diligent or hardworking may be difficult and can be challenging when doing it but after the result is always good, pleasing and bountiful. If you must be successful
in business, you must embrace diligency.

Usefulness of Business Ethics

Business ethics is useful in the following ways:

• Improve the rate of attendance of
  workers.
• Increase productivity
• Effective and efficient leadership
• Increase quality of work and value
• Reduces conflicts etc

Conclusion

The need for business ethics cannot be overemphasized in the line of business. Any business that is run without any rules and regulations cannot stand the test of time. Business ethics is the back bone of any business.

In order to be successful, productive and be financially balance in the business society, you must take these business ethics strictly to action.
