Surfing Cyclone Uesi & Birth of a new Steemit Community
First of all, I´ve created a new Community for all the Surfers among us. You´re welcome to be a part of it and I´m looking forward to see many good photos, read fun stories and learn more about the ocean and spots I haven´t surfed before
I wanted to post since quite a while. Just recently, almost the whole east coast of Australia benefited from a Cyclone called UESI. You will most likely ask yourself why benefited, since most of the people suffered from it due to floodings.
But there is a small group of people who celebrated these days like it is everything for them...Surfers. Cyclone UESI produced some impressive swells all along the coast. Since the absolute best options were on the southerly gold coast, towns like Byron Bay and Lennox Head have seen some really good waves as well and that´s where I´ve shot some photos.
This was Lennox Head on the first morning. The conditions were not perfect and there was only one surfer out. Considering that this area is home to quite a good amount of sharks I asked myself if this guy has a deathwish. I would never ever paddle out alone on this spot. Even the photos scare me.
This looks so scary and I get anxiety by looking at it. I bet this guy wasn´t feeling really comfortable out there.
After we got back from Byron Bay where I surfed that swell we had another look at Lennox Head and it looked much better. There were a few surfers in the line-up and the waves were around 10 foot high. I´m pretty sure these guys had a lot of fun out there.
More surfers lined up outisde, waiting for the right moment to paddle out. Or maybe thinking about if they should even go or not. On a swell like this you better think twice. :)
Byron Bay looked much more friendly that day and also the waves were much smaller. Crystal Clear water with nice breaking waves, each of them barreling...perfect conditions. Unfortunately a few other surfers had the same opinion that day.
But all of this is nothing compared to what was going on in Coolangatta at spots like Kirra Beach and Snapper Rocks as well as further north in the Noosa Nationalpark. Since I wasn´t there I´ll add some of the best youtube videos. Especially Kirra was absolutely insane.
