18th Railway Tunnel of Pattipola Sri-Lanka

Uhh,Almost after a week got a chance to create a post to Steem Sri-Lanka.Hope you all are safe.Today I'm going to write about the 18th railway tunnel which is in Pattipola.

We all know that Sri-Lanka General railway is established by British government with both Sri-lankan and british engineers together.There are lot of secrets available along the up country railway of Sri-Lanka.There are about 42 tunnels available in Colombo fort - Badulla railway road.

After passing Nanuoya or Thalawakale passengers in the train will feel the climatic change.So the climate is cold as similar to Nuwaraeliya.After passing Pattipola railway station which is the highest railway station in Sri-Lanka,there is a special place that we met if we travel through the train.It is the 18th railway tunnel from colombo and also this is the darkest railway tunnel in Sri-Lanka.

This tunnel is the third longest(321.95m) tunnel in Sri-Lanka.The tunnel of Hatton(Singimale tunnel-559.75m)long and the tunnel between Colombo - Kandy(Moragolla tunnel-359.7m)long and also these tunnels are the first and second tunnels in Sri-Lanka.

This tunnel was prepared in 1919 and has done some repairs several times.The mountain which tunnel 18 is crossed is called as Nasdanda mountain.Tunnel 19 and 20 are so closed to this tunnel.

Most wonderful fact of tunnel 18 is that the two sides of this tunnel has different climates.This is the only place in Sri-Lanka that we can fell something like that.North side of this tunnel is belongs to Uva province and the southern side of the tunnel is belongs to central province.
