Galboda - best from both worlds
If you are near kandy or hoping to travel to kandy. If you are a fan of trecking yet don't want to exhaust yourself too much. If you find waterfalls to be amusing. Annnd if you want to experience the gorgeous kandy - badulla railway!!! Galboda is the place for you.
So here's how you get there
If you are coming from colombo take the Colombo - Badulla train or you can come to kandy by other means. If you are in Kandy you should take the 'Podimanike' train which departs for badulla at 8.45 from the Kandy railway station. A third class ticket only costs Rs. 50 ( which is less than 0.2 USD!!!!). There is a train which departs later but i would recommend this one cause this gives you more time to explore Galboda.
Alright. I don't need to tell you how good the Kandy - Badulla train ride is!! You won't be seeing most of the waterfalls because those come after Galboda but there are some amazing views. Anddd plenty of opportunities for some great photos. Just... don't fall off the train. If decide to ditch your seat and go near the door go to the left side for the best views.
You'll be there at around 10.30 - 11 get down at the Galboda station and walk back until you find the trail. ( more pf a road tbh) ask a local if you can't find the place. From there onwards it's a short walk to the waterfall ( by short i mean around 2km)
If it's a sunny day you can go to the bottom of the waterfall. You can literally stabd there and let the water fall on you. My personal preference is a rainy day. You can't get close to it but that feeling with the mist and the cold and the gloom is Out Of This World!!!!.
There are plenty of places to take photos along the way. You will be going through a tea estate and a light forest area. And of course there us a brilliant view point to take photos of the waterfall.
Relax, sing, have a laugh have a cold bath and make sure you don't leave anything behind.
There are two trains to come back to kandy. One leaves at 2.30 and the other at 4.30 from the Galboda station. Ask for exact times from the station master when you go in the morning. If you are going to badulla side that's also possible via train. Buses are also there. ( highly recommend the train )
