True human relationships and social value
I was born in a beautiful village in Sri Lanka's Western Province. I lived there from my birth until my marriage, but after my marriage, I had to relocate to a city area closer to Kiribathgoda Town. When my son was four years old, we built a house in the Gampaha Town area. From that day to today, we live in that house, which means we live in the city area.
According to my experience, though both cities and villages are places for human settlement, they vastly differ in terms of quality of life and social structure.
When we consider education, the city gives good education opportunities than the village. While cities have primary to graduation or post-graduation level, villages have few governments run primary schools. Even though many villages have advanced level classes, due to a lack of facilities and education quality, village students seek education in cities.
Now let’s consider the health facilities. As you are aware, healthcare facilities such as hospitals, dispensaries, pathologies, diagnostic centers, medical shops, a large number of doctors, and so on are better in cities. Some cities have multiple hospitals. However, the situation in villages is not the same as in cities. Most village hospitals lack the necessary doctors, medical equipment, and laboratory facilities. However, city hospitals are better equipped to handle emergencies, with immediate access to any type of test if necessary.
When it comes to employment opportunities, the village economy is based on agriculture, so the majority of the village people farm for a living. They grew crops, cereals, fruits, and vegetables, which they sold at the city market to earn money. However, the city offers numerous job opportunities for both low-wage workers and professionals.
The social bonding in village life is extremely strong. Villagers know each other personally and participate in happy and sad occasions as needed. However, social bonding is a distant memory in city life. People in cities don't know each other personally, and they don't even know who their next-door neighbor is.
Although life in a city may be financially stable and provide all of the necessities, I prefer to live in a village because true human relationships and social values can be found there.
