Story of the image

In this piece, I will explain to you the story behind the photograph I provided here. If I tell you the story of the Galle lighthouse, you may be recalled. It is especially important for residents in the South. Not only them but all Sri Lankans value this location equally.

The photograph I provided you is of the Galle Light House, which was located in Galle Dutch Fort. During their 16th-century victory, the Portuguese built this fortress. Then, in the 17th century, this fort was fortified and seized by the Dutch, followed by the British. This is known as the ancient town of Galle, and it has been utilized as a trade harbor for spices and other goods for almost 200 years.

The Galle Lighthouse, also known as Point Galle Light, is Sri Lanka's oldest light station. When we examine its height, it is around 26.5 meters high and is maintained by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. This viewpoint provides a full view of all ships entering Galle Harbor. This place has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and is an extremely popular tourist attraction. It is reported that the lighthouse was first illuminated in 1939 and erected by the British in 1934. It was positioned approximately 100 meters from the current location and was destroyed by fire in 1934. The present lighthouse was erected in 1939. Although tourists are not permitted to climb to the top of the lighthouse, it is one of the fort's most popular attractions owing to its gorgeous surroundings and great for taking photographs.

These photos were captured by me while I was visiting Galle Fort at the end of January. I enjoy visiting highly important places in Sri Lanka, and I encourage everyone to do the same when you have time.
