If you remember when OnePlus made that deal with Hasselblad to improve their color science in the imaging system, that's when I knew that the camera which was used to record footage on the moon by Apollo 11 astronauts. I didn't think of it that much back then but after watching this movie, I realized how hard it had been to launch these big projects with multiple tragic failures in history.

Fly Me to the Moon is a periodic rom-com movie that was released on July 12, 2024. "Fly Me to the Moon" is the latest venture from Greg Berlanti, known for his work on "Love, Simon." The film originally had Chris Evans and Jason Bateman attached before changes led to Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum stepping in, with Berlanti taking over directorial duties. Despite its star-studded cast and an initial plan for a direct-to-streaming release, the film's theatrical release was ultimately prioritized following strong test screenings.

In the vibrant yet tense atmosphere of the 1960s Space Race, "Fly Me to the Moon" centers on Kelly Jones (Scarlett Johansson), a savvy marketing specialist, and Cole Davis (Channing Tatum), a dedicated NASA launch director. Kelly is mostly like a con artist with an unpleasant childhood. And Cole is still recovering from the trauma of the Apollo 1 disaster.

As the Apollo 11 mission approaches, the high-stakes environment demands a successful space launch and a carefully crafted backup plan in case of failure. Jones is brought in to create a convincing fictionalized version of the mission, intended to save NASA's public image if the real mission encounters unexpected problems.

As Jones and Davis work together on this high-pressure project, their professional interactions evolve into a personal connection. Amid the mounting stress and the looming possibility of a failed mission, the two characters develop a romantic bond, adding a layer of emotional depth to their collaboration. Their chemistry becomes a focal point, offering moments of levity and intimacy amidst the otherwise serious backdrop of their work.

The film deftly intertwines the romance between Jones and Davis with the historical significance of the Apollo 11 mission. As the story progresses, their relationship faces challenges both from within their own hearts and the external pressures of their roles. The film balances light-hearted romantic comedy with the historical drama of the Space Race, creating a narrative that explores how love can flourish even under the most daunting circumstances.

"Fly Me to the Moon" stands out from other romantic comedies by blending historical intrigue with its romantic plot. The movie’s setting provides a fresh canvas for exploring the era's social and political atmosphere, though its focus on romance often overshadows the historical context. Unlike other films that may solely rely on modern settings or conventional love stories, this film incorporates a distinct historical backdrop, making it a blend of romance and period drama.

"Fly Me to the Moon" has received mixed critical reviews. Rotten Tomatoes shows a 65% approval rating, while Metacritic assigns it a middling score of 53. Critics have praised Johansson and Tatum's chemistry but noted that the film's plot can stretch credibility at times. Some reviews have found the film's romantic elements to be overshadowed by its attempt to weave in historical significance, with notable critics like The Guardian describing it as "misjudged and unfunny."

Financially, "Fly Me to the Moon" has had a modest performance, grossing $20.3 million domestically and $19.4 million internationally, bringing its total to $39.6 million against a $100 million budget. Actually, the movie was planned to hit directly to VOD Despite its lackluster box office returns and mixed critical reception, the film's charming lead performances and unique historical angle offer a pleasant diversion, though it may not fully satisfy those looking for a deeper exploration of its themes.

"Fly Me to the Moon" delivers an enjoyable but imperfect blend of romance and historical drama. While its attempt to combine these genres is commendable, the film's execution leaves room for improvement. Fans of Johansson and Tatum will find their performances engaging, but those seeking a more substantive exploration of the Space Race might be disappointed.
