A Peaceful Day Trip to Rannagala Ella and Peelihatha

in Steem Sri Lanka3 months ago
After a busy seven weeks of exams at university, I finally had a free weekend. We decided to spend the day at a nice spot, starting our journey from my sister’s house in Kalutara. One of my brother’s friends joined us as well.

We visited Rannagala Ella, a small waterfall in the village of Rannagala, Neboda, in the Kalutara district. The waterfall is about 10 meters high and very beautiful. It’s about 6.1 km from Matugama, but we traveled over 25 km from Kalutara to reach it.

Although the waterfall is small, there is a natural pool at the top, which has been improved with several bathing ponds. There are now four or five pools. the area is close to the Kotawela plantation and making it a very peaceful spot. Because of this, many visitors come here. We brought our breakfast and thought of eating it there.

Unfortunately, we saw a lot of garbage left by visitors, and since it was a long weekend, the place was crowded. We also noticed some men drinking, so we decided to leave and look for another place.

Next, we found a beautiful spot called Peelihatha, located in Helamba, Matugama, about 7.6 km from Rannagala. The path to get there was difficult and slippery, so we parked near a house and walked. My mom stopped halfway because she was scared. It was my first time on such an adventure.

At Peelihatha, there was only one spring, though it’s called peelihatha. The area was full of green trees, and the water was icy cold, clean, and clear. We spent about an hour there, helping each other climb the slippery path. We also tried free fish therapy.

Sadly, we noticed broken glass bottles in the area, which made us feel disappointed. After that, we went to another friend’s house nearby to have lunch, which we had prepared earlier.

I was really unhappy to read your post, because you mentioned here people had thrown their rubbish to the environment carelessly. This is the case in every nice place in our country. They came to enjoy the surroundings and then left, ruining the ecology. I am not sure when our people will learn something. They are requesting to change the system. I don't believe that we can change the system, until we change first.
