Corn Wade | 5% for SL Charity

For sure you are familiar with wade. Normally wade is made using dahl. Or udu wade is made using “Udu” seeds. But this time we tried it with a different ingredient. It is corn!

Our brother and sister went to their house in Dambulla last week. There they have a big land and have grown many things. Among those one is corn. They have a little area with corn. So brought handful of corn when they came back.

When they were at home, they have tried this new wade recipe and our brother suggested to try it again. Even if we gave a lot to our relatives there were still few corns left for us.

So my mom boiled them to make wade. There is something we didn’t new about boiling corn. We recently learn this from the brother. Usually they don’t use well grown corn for boiling and boil them over night. Which means let them boil for hours. So corns are softer when we eat them.

Normally, we eat corn by boiling them, or use corn kernels to make popcorn, sometimes baby corn are used for salads. And we can buy products like cornflakes or corn flour made out of corn. There are many ways to consume corn. But I haven’t eaten it this way before.

After boiling them over night, we had to collect the corn kernels for our purpose. And then we grinded them using the grinder. But it is hard to grind so mom used little bit of warm water with it.

Then the paste is made as usual. As we make wade from dhal. But this more sticky and feels hard to handle than the dhal paste. So we had to apply some water on hand time to time for making the shapes using the paste.

Here is how it looks after deep fried in oil. It looks more golden than dhal wade. And it is tasty 😋.
