Why Monkeys Eat Papaya Leaves?
Papaya is a famous and delicious fruit rich in Vitamin A, C, and many other components. We have grown many papaya plants in our garden but we couldn't harvest a single fruit during the past 3 years.
Papaya Trees Change Their Gender!
There are female, male and hermaphrodite papaya trees. Hermaphrodite trees are able to give fruits itself because it has both male stamens and female ovaries in flowers.
Female trees need to be pollinated by a male tree to get fruits while male trees don't give fruits. We called the "Mal Pepol" here.
Male papaya trees and hermaphrodite papaya trees change it's it gender due to high temperature. Male papay can convert to hermaphrodite and hermaphrodite can be changed to male in high temperature.
Eaten by monkeys
In our garden, it is very common that monkeys destroying the upper part of papaya trees. More than matured leaves they like young leaves. The worst thing is they damage the plant and they don't give fruits ever.
Monkeys loves this part
Due to the monkey bite, the shape of the tree gets changes. When they broke the top of the plant, it causes to grow another branch of the tree.
In my house, there is a tree that is growing up and also with multiple branches. Monkeys continuously eat the top leaves.
Destroyed top leaves and a tree with 3 branches
Papaya Leaves are Non Toxic
As they are consumed by monkeys means they are nontoxic. If you remember recently, an inventor introduced a syrup using papaya leaves for Dengue. I read an article about it and they say the idea about the medicine came after observing monkeys eating papaya leaves.
They have proved that the syrup causes to increase in blood Platelets amount of a person, even healthy. In the article, they haven't mentioned any side effects except the bitter taste of syrup.
