Unknown Strangers

Today was the first day of my vacation. I already had some work to get done from Colombo. So the day was reserved to go to Colombo. My partner of crime agreed to come with me.

Without considering the rain I started the journey. I waited a few minutes in the Balapitiya bus station till he comes. I noticed an old grandmother with a disabled granddaughter standing at the halt. She tried to catch a bus but it seems no one showed an interest. She was there till Harith comes to pick me up. Before getting into the car I informed the situation to him and he asked me to call them in. I ask her where she is going and she said she is going to somewhere close to Induruwa. She had come to the division secretarial office to receive the 'Disable's Allowance' of the granddaughter for the second time this month.

Today was declared a government holiday and she had to face this pathetic situation. We dropped her from her halt and Harith gave her some money that we had on our hands at that moment. "මේකෙන් අවුරුද්දට මොනව හරි ගන්න" When I tell this, her face changed suddenly, in a good way.

These days even my family lives with difficulties. So imagine how people without proper jobs face this financial crisis. I wrote this incident not to tell that I did it, but to invoke your feelings and inspire you to do the same. I was inspired by a Facebook post that is posted by someone who helped an unknown stranger at the pharmacy. It invoked my emotions an I motivated to earn and help people when needed.

This incident made my day and everything happened successfully!
