These days we are working on our new pantry cupboards. So I decided to share with you how we planned and where to purchase things for your pantry cupboards. I hope this will be very useful to you if you are going to build a kitchen pantry.

Where were we at the beginning?

In the beginning, we just wanted to do a pantry and we had no idea where to start. Our kitchen was already built with a cement top, which had to build by keeping a traditional kitchen in mind. First, we had doubts, about how to apply a modern gas hob to the kitchen.

With multiple doubts in the mind, first, we research how this should be done. First thing was we watched the following set of videos of Lyra Studio

Pantry Cupboard Design Tips 2

They covered so many technical details relevant to Kitchen and pantry design. We were able to sort out many of our problems after watching these.

Decided the placement of components

Our kitchen wasn't too spacy one, it had limited space. So we had to carefully decide where to place the cooker and other components. After the research, we identified a few things that we are not ready with,

  1. We didn't have a hollow to place the cooker hob.
  2. Modern cookers and cooker hoods require little electrical power to function
  3. You can't granite easily if you have a cement pantry top

We had to create a bit on the pantry top for the cooker. If you are building a concrete top without planning the kitchen, you need to pay attention to this mistake. Then we arranged two plugs next to the hollow for the hob and hood. We gave up granite because we already had a concrete top.

We didn't apply any ovens or dishwashers, but if you are interested, you can plan them too.

Also, don't forget to decide how many drawers you need for the pantry. Because you have to purchase relevant racks and trays also.

Selecting a Material

The most difficult part was selecting a material. We contacted more than 7 people to take quotations for Aluminum, HDX, and Wood. Some people quoted us almost 900 000 LKR which is extremely high. But finally we came up with the decision to go with wood, which is the least expensive way. It will cost less than 300K LKR without cooker and other instruments.

What to Buy Frist?

Before doing any changes, we purchased the following things first,

  1. Sink
  2. Cooker Hob
  3. Cooker Hood
  4. Racks and Trays
  5. Tiles

The main reason was we wanted to get the proper dimensions of components. So before any other design, we purchased them.

The sink is purchased from Darga town, Cooker Hob and Cooker Hood from Abans, Racks we ordered online from Amex Interiors.

According to the knowledge we got from videos, normally there are three layers for the drawer. Grund layer for plates, second for cups and saucers, and top layer for spoons. We only ordered racks for the ground and second drawers, for the top drawer we decided to build a tray with wood. Because today's products are unreasonably high.

Until the tiling process is finished we planned how should be our pantry arrangement.

We designed as we want :)

We had no opportunity to meet any interior designer. After studying hundreds of online pictures and videos, we started to design our own dream pantry. We had to manage limited space in an optimum way. First I proposed a 3D drawing in my mind and after that, we discussed and optimized it a lot.

My initial draft. This changed a lot after (This is drawn using ms word)

Harith identified tons of silly things in my initial draft. We modified it multiple times. We wanted to add some open shelves, and a plate rack as well. Also, we included a cover for the cooker hood. Once the carpenter arrived he showed us some other infeasibility of the design. He also suggested us better sizes for each cupboard.

Anyhow, we could manage to finalize the design in the best and optimum way.

Not only the arrangement, but also you need to plan the designs for doors, drawers, and door handlers. As we built using wood, we had lots of creative options.

We purchased 8 inch handler (first one) for 800+ LKR damn sellers made inflation

Time to show carpenter's talent!

After finalizing the design we handed over work to our carpenter. We also shared google found pictures of designs we want.

Now we are so excited to see the final output!! It is just started and so waiting to share the result.

Hope this article will show you the path to where to go. This path can't be the best and professional path, but it was fun and relaxing.

I guess planning these things is much easier when you have a civil engineer with you🤭 Best wishes for the next steps

yeah basically his thinking is advanced than my non technical thinking

We are also waiting to see the final output.
