Day After Vesak :)

The day after Vesak day was a very active day because I had a special hope to concentrate on. Harith and his family had planned to visit our place for evening tea. Me and brother already decided what to do and my mother had already decided what to cook. In the late morning, we prepared some snacks including Halapa, Tosted bread and patis for their visit. I was so waiting till they arrive.

They came around 2.30 pm and we spent some hours chatting and eating. Once tea is finished, I proposed to go to a temple in our area. As they haven't visited our area that much, they agreed without any hesitation. It was "Dutugamunu Rajamaha Viharaya" which is built on an area that is used by King Dutugamunu.

The temple is located on a mountain, so we had to climb up using the staircase. There are multiple stories around this temple. It say the King Dutugamunu gathered his army from this area to fight against a Chola Leader Sandara.

On the way to the top, we can see statues of ten giant warriors of King Dutugamunu. These statues were more colorful earlier, but nowadays colors seem to be washed out.

When I was little we frequently used to visit this temple and I still remember, there was a huge crowd those days. And also there were so many beggars wearing different bandages and little me asked my mother why they are sitting like that. That's where I first got to know about beggars. But nowadays the situation has become a bit different. Those days we used to eat popsicles on the way to home.

Back to present :)

The temple has developed more than on my last visit. There was a tall standing Buddha statue, which is built new and it added a great look to the temple. We spent around one hour in the temple worshiping and looking at the statues and paintings.

Once we came out of the temple, an uncle called us and rub some oil on our heads telling us that the "Na tree" right in front of has big power. It can be an obvious myth, but to make him feel happy we allowed him to do that.

When climbing down it started to rain. So at the bottom of the hill, we weren't able to eat any ice cream. Instead of that, we purchased cotton candy. :)
